Please help all of my games were running fine a week ago. I was running WoW and other games at max quality all over 60 fps now my laptop is struggling to stay over 20 fps with massive drops to almost nothing. I have no virus'. In the past few days i have downloaded 6 games off Steam because its safe but now my computer is slow. Here are my Specs:

    Alienware M17x
Processor Intel Core i7 740QM Quad Core Processor, 1.73GHz (2.93GHz Turbo Mode, 6M Cache)
Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium, Alienware M17x R2 Laptop
500 GB SATA Hard Drive (7200 RPM), 6 GB Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM 1333MHZ
8X DVD +/- RW Optical Drive, Crossfire 1GB ATI Radeon Mobility HD 5870

interesting. I would recommend to check in the Bios and see if everything is running at the correct rate. I have a feeling either the CPU or the GPU isnt working correctly for some odd reason. FPS dont just drop without something clocking up to where it should be. Also make sure you are using Max Performance and not Max Battery life on your power settings! hoped this helped!

Make sure you're not in Stealth Mode. It's the little speedometer icon to the far right on the touch-sensitive bar. Make sure Windows power management is set to High Performance. Go into Catalyst Control Center and make sure you don't have all of the settings jacked up to the far right. You want Catalyst AI and mipmaps set to the far right, and that is it. Download and run GPU-Z to make sure you're running in CrossFire (it'll say it toward the bottom). Always make sure that some background process isn't sapping CPU cycles and RAM. If you have the capability, run 3DMark Vantage and post your score. It's a good troubleshooting aid. Oh, and make sure you're plugged into the wall outlet, and that the tip of your AC adapter is glowing blue. There are really only a couple of things that will cause that kind of performance loss.

Is crossfire working? Run GPU-Z to see if it says Enabled under Crossfire then run your games again. Also make sure that you aren't running in state3 which is 300/400 this will reduce frames.

EDIT: I remember this happening to me before, My RAM Usage was like 90% on 8gb and my performance suffered. I am trying to remember what I did to fix this. Will post back when I remember.

EDIT 2: Try this disable crossfire, restart... enable crossfire, restart. Then run Vantage to test to see if it is running right post your results. Also check in task manager for CPU load by clicking on CPU to sort from high to low usage.

Try running on one card and see if you get the same issue.
