I may buy this Alienware 17 used, from a guy I know. He says it has 16 gb of ram, the 880 graphics card, and no warranty. When I look up the service tag number it says there is a warranty through May of 2015. Wouldn't the seller know this? Also, can you guys tell from the configuration screen if:
1. The screen is 1080p?
2. Does it indeed have 16 gb of ram?
3. Does it have the 880 graphics card?

Anything else you can tell me about this laptop would be appreciated, like a fair price.
Thanks

From what I can gather out of this it has...
i7 4910mq
80gb caching drive + 1tb HDD
1080p display provided FHD stands for full HD , but does not appear to support 3D
Wireless 7260 AC
240W adapter, and although I don't see the GPU listed that only comes with the higher end stuff so I presume that it would be the 880m but you can just check the devices tab to find out for sure
Windows 8
Blu-Ray Drive
Someone can correct me if I am wrong, but does it not look like it says it has 4 x 8GB of memory? so 32GB?
Are you sure this guy bought this machine? If he knows nothing about it including the warranty that would be a red flag to me. If it was obtained by less the legitimate means there is probably no way to transfer the warranty to you, that would be my main concern. If the website is telling you the warranty is good and you are sure you have the right service tag then the warranty is good for another year almost.Hackintoshihope likes this. -
Thanks for the help. He says this was shipped to him to replace a defective laptop he bought new from Dell in May of 2014. He also claims he built a gaming desktop so he never really used this warranty replacement laptop. I'm also concerned about the legitimacy of this unit. The service tag and express service codes match. When I go see the machine I'll confirm the express service code on the label,
Any idea of a fair value for this unit?
Thanks

It is the 880m searching on that P/N MSI Alienware Nvidia GTX 880M 880M 8GB Video Graphics Card Alienware N15E GX A2 | eBay
I have heard of people not knowing that they can sell on their AW with the warranty. Search dell for the warranty transfer to see what is needed. If they cannot match the tag with the address on-file then it might get complicated.
Value IMO is directly related to how much warranty remains and if it can be renewed again. They are expensive if something major breaks, and it does happen with high-power parts! Can't help with a cash number though...MogRules likes this.
Help me figure out this configuration
