hello fellow Aliens, i have encountered a wierd problem, after a dissassembly an installation of a new armrest and keyboard frame, my GTX560M isnt allways detected, and when it is it makes my Win8,1 crash, i usually happens this way: The GFX fan speeds up for some seconds and after that i cant push anything with my mouse in Windows, but i can use the keyboard........Will a clean Windows install fix this or could it be a connector i havent installed properly after the dissassembly? Are there any connectors related to the GFX under the armrest?

    Thx

Hi, it's not unknown for the GFX card to get moved or disturbed causing problems like you describe, even though you never touched it. Get some IPA (medical injection wipes are good). Remove the fan and the two card retaining screws. Do not separate the card from the heatsink. You can get the whole unit out without doing that. Clean the edge connector with the alcohol and blow out the slot. Reassemble and hope!

    Good luck

Not a clue I'm afraid, it would be a dice roll IMO, unless someone says they did it :). The MXM bit is OK.

I installed the latest nvidia driver today, just to see what would happen, knowing that you can not do overclocking etc.. anyways, the videocard was not overclocked, all was good until I enabled my the usual 3rd profile in bios (being a 3940xm, on a m17x-r4) for the extrmee cpu. Now I hasve no more discrete graphis card. no matter what i do, I never see a videocard installed. tried a few different bios's tried three different good working GPU's, tried enabling PEG only etc.. all those optiosn work as per normal save my system doesn't detect ANY discrete graphics card. My friend says he had the same issue last night, when I called him.
e, my perfectly fine system Just
Dell might have put something into these drivers. I would be cautious. Don't risk it. (Or complete coincidence, but I never had an issue on my m17x-r4 like this before)

Yeah, they sometimes give a little more life after a driver change.

    Good luck with the 780m.

You will need to make bios changes so research those, it's not just one setting I do know that.

Modified driver .inf file to allow the driver installer to run can be obtained from laptopvideo2go/drivers. You just replace the original with this file and it will install. Drill down on a driver to get the INF link.

    Good luck.

It does seem like the card was dying and finally passed away. Let us know how the upgrade goes!
