Hi new to this site need some help with my laptop.I have an alienware m17x r3 with , a 1.5gb gtx 460m I am using the same stock drivers that came with the system.I have several games Crysis,Crysis 2 DMC Devil May Cry,Black Ops ,The Darkness 2 all play fine no problems.

However i recently got Crysis 3 and Tomb Raider 2013, when ever i try to play Crysis 3 it reachs up to the splash screen where u see Prophet holding the bow and then Crashes. No error message no freezing its as thought the game just stops running.I know the 460 m can handle it because i played the open beta through origin with out problems.

Now when i play Tomb Raider 2013 I Click on it and nothing happends no splash screen nothing. According to the Nvidia gpu acativety icon in my desktop the 460 m begins running it and then the TR icon just disappares from it. Agian no error massages no locks ups i can go and play any other games fine. When i use the intel intgrated gpu with Tomb Raider it runs just not well because it the Integrated gpu.

So in short two games that should run not running.

would appreciate any help or suggestions sorry for the wall of text just wanted to try to be thorough.

Hi, First thing to try is a later more up-to-date video driver. The 3xx series are quite a bit different. First get one from the nvidia support site, make sure you select notebook and not desktop. If you get problems (like an error that your hardware cannot be detected), that can be fixed. I'll give you details if that happens :)

    Good luck

your going to have to modify the the .inf file. Haven't kept up with that stuff since I got the 6990m, but you can try using a modded .inf file to let install. First, go to this site and click on the green INF Modified and you will get a page with a wall of text. Next, open up the nvidia folder (should be right on your C-Drive if memory serves right), find the driver install your trying to run and click on it. find the nvszc.inf file, click on it, and then copy and paste and overwrite the info that is there currently with the new info, close and save the file, then run the .exe within the folder and it should install fine. Sorry if this is all a bit confusing as I haven't done .inf modding in over a year and I don't have any screen shots to use. :( Hope it helps.

You can get a modified INF file from here: LaptopVideo2Go: Drivers . Follow the links for your driver version and look for the inf link. It will open a txt file that you have to save with the name in the title (nvwin.inf). Make sure your windows does not add a .txt to it. You don't need the driver file as you already have that extracted.

Then you have a trawl through the c:\nvidia\displaydriver\'version#'\display.driver\ to find the original file. Replace it with the downloaded one. If windows does not prompt you to overwrite then either you are in the wrong folder or the filename is incorrect.

I hope it's clear but if you get stuck just ask or PM me :)

Edit: Doh, just read bigtonyman's, similar thing just a different inf. But there are a bunch of them in there and I've seen other .inf's changed that work also. I just checked the last three drivers and each one had a different .inf file - confusing or what!

lol, there are 34 nv***.inf's in that folder! Most look very similar - strange way to setup a driver install
