So i've got 3 external monitors, all of them bought together ASUS VS228 LED monitors. They all have HDMI VGA and DVI ports. I've connected three of them to my laptop and they're all detected. I have the first connected with HDMI, second with a Mini-DP to HDMI adapter and third with VGA. I have tested and can get any combination of 2 of them working together. eg. monitor 1+2, 2+3, 3+4, 4+1, 4+2, etc. but i can't seem to get them working simultaneously. I'm not concerned if my m17x monitor is on, i just want the 3 external ones (2,3,4) to be on. I've been trying to fix this for almost a month now with no results, bought the cables then bought this minidp-hdmi adapter and thought "YES FINALLY I CAN USE THE 3 MONITORS"but nope. I still can't get past 2. I don't know what the problem is.
What I've tried : Getting a minidp-hdmi adapter. didn't work
updated my drivers - didn't work
on AMD eyeinfinity options, i went to create a new group and it detects them all but i only get a 2x1 or a 1x2 option. Any thoughts as to what it could be?
I tried fn+f7, my graphics is not on switchable, i'm solely running the 7970m.
in screen resolution (the display area), it shows me all 4 monitors are connected, but when i try to extend the display it says "the display combination could not be saved, please try a different combination of display settings.
This is such bs. The only solution I've found online is to get usb 3.0 to hdmi adapters which are like $60 + tax/shipping each.

Are you using an active adapter for the 3rd monitor?

What's an "active" adapter? I have a minidp to hdmi adapter.

So i saw this, does anyone know if getting 2 of them would allow me to simultaneously run 3 external monitors through HDMI? They're usb 3.0 to hdmi adapters so i don't know if I'd have to worry about all these stupid mini-dp and vga bullcrap. -
I highly doubt the 7970M can handle four monitors in total, at least for gaming.
The USB adapters should work. I've heard of people using them. -

You should have seen active or passive when ordering the adapter. USB powered monitors can only use software rendering, not accelerated by the GPU.

This might be the problem. I don't know if this applies to AMD cards, but on my M17x-R4 with an Nvidia card, I was able to do all four monitors simultaneously (three external plus laptop). Opening up the Nvidia control panel told me that the GTX 680m was running the DisplayPort and laptop monitor, while the Intel HD 4000 was powering the VGA and HDMI monitors. It still played smoothly as if the GTX 680m was rendering all three externals.
See if you can find a way to turn on your Intel card so that it's active alongside the 7970m. -
Hi mendameister, I have eyefinity running off a M18X R2 and have previously had it setup on a M17X with a single 7970m, as long as all 3 are running perfectly fine at 60HZ there is no reason you should not be able to get this to work without the need of extra peripherals
There are only certain driver revisions where it will be able to run eyefinity; most noticably anything from 13.6 and after.
13.6 is the most stable driver at the moment.
I personally believe this is most likely a problem with drivers still.
Please remove your current driver,
download driver sweeper and reboot your computer in safe mode;
proceed to removing all AMD files - this ensures you will be given a clean slate - when drivers are removed they leave behind little files which may interfere with other driver revisions.
Reboot in regular mode
install 13.6 WHQL (MOBILITY)
When you mean extend the display does it mean you can see the three monitors within the control panel display settings; but one or more are grey or black? Meaning you can't select? After the process I linked; try to disable the unneeded monitor; that may fix your problem; I get that error if I have too many external monitors connected.
Wishing you luck.
