Yeh, the source on your TV should be HDMI, not PC. PC is for VGA connection, not HDMI. Switch channels untill you get HDMI.
The TV source usually gives you the option of TV, AV, PC and HDMI 1, 2, 3 etc etc depending on how many HDMI in ports you have on the tele.

Strange, have you tried it on anyother tele to confirm it works?
Also when plugged in, open graphic properties, it usually works for me.

So my computer detects my tv. But i still get the " Unsupported Signal error" After further research online apparently its a common problem for Sony Bravia tvs..... And i own both a 47 and 55 inch of those and both come up with the same error display. Anyone know how to get around sonys garbage televisions

Yo! sony's not garbage...most of the time...

(This is an odd method, you have been warned)

Try wiggling the hdmi cable in/out of the HDMI Out port on your laptop. it sometimes works. Or try with another hdmi cable.

Worst case scenario, the motherboard is probably hdmi dysfunctional. 3hr call to Dell may be necessary. People have been complaining lately about how hdmi in/out doesn't work on their ps3's or other hdmi capable devices.

Edit: I didn't make the sony link or anything it just automatically did it D:

Have you tried switching the color space used for the screen, I know usually defaults to RGB which some tvs do not support. On AMD drivers can find the setting under Pixel Format, NVIDIA has it is as well just can't remember what they call it.

The cable works, it picks up my laptop, my tv screen doesnt display anything because apparently sending the signal back yields an "unsupported signal" response message. Tried my old sony laptop with the same cable it works, and my xbox has no problem picking up HD with that cable aswell

Try playing music or a video, and see if any audio is coming through to your tv>? That'll indicate if your hdmi-out works and/or if your tv is picking up ANY signal at all.

I had a similar problem with a non-alienware (still dell) computer and a Samsung TV. It was solved by rebooting the computer. Probably won't work for you, but it is worth a try.

    Please list your specs.

If your AMD, plug into tele, open CCC and go to Common display tasks, then select detect displays.

    Let me know what happens.

Ok, have you tried it on the Intel graphics card? Switch to Intel and try the same thing from the intel Control center.

Or alternitavly. Go back to CCC, go to desktop management and lower your resolution, see if that helps. Could be that your tele is only 1080i or 720p.
