I believe so. I don't remember which members of this forum or Tech|Inferno are using the 330W AC adapter with their Alienware 17, but my understanding is that it works excellent for overclocking. Maybe one of them will read this post and say something. I even know of one person that uses the 330W AC adapter from the Alienware 18 with his Alienware 14.

The test results look good. You will always have lower CPU benchmark scores with Windows 8. Windows 8 does something to hinder CPU performance. Your results are very similar to what I see with this 4930MX at the same clock speeds under Windows 8. So, everything is working correctly.

You're not alone on your sentiments about the fan problems. There are plenty of unhappy Alienware 18 owners over the lame fan behavior and inability to control them manually with HWiNFO64. There is no legitimate reason they cannot deliver what we want as far as manual fan control and a BIOS that we can unlock the menus if we choose to do so. It seems like they simply do not care about what we want. It's most unfortunate that Alienware has decided to ignore the wishes of their customers on these things. I know that I will never purchase another one as long as they keep making them crippled as they are now.

Looks to be more or less the same, correct? I am glad that A10 did not mess up 4930MX performance for the Alienware 17 like A07 did for the Alienware 18.

It looks like the score in single tread test is a little low 1.83. Suppose to be about 1.85.
this seems to be ok results with 4x42 with only 37 Cashe;-) Think I try Increase Cash up a bit. It has the least impact on scores on Cinebench. Many do not recommend run cashe and multiplier equals . What do you think of that i increase the voltage on the core and cache and not use offset in Xtu?

Hi friends, just got a alienware 17 with 4910mq overclocked in bios " OC level 1 " i disabled it and tried to OC myself so far the 4910mq is running 1,24v and its 100 mhz higher clocked than the 4900mq,

i need help with XTU settings, my alienware 17 shutdown once i up the " Processor current Limit over 100A " but its the only way i get over 10k points on 3dmark11 CPU.. whenever i set it to the normal 85 A i get 9500 points, can someone help a little.

turbo max and short both 100W
    my cores 42x 41x 41x 41x and cache i had on 41, i tried now 38x not big difference
no offsets yet i dont know what to take,

    Unbenannt.jpg

    any help with my settings?

    Hi
You DO NOT need one core is clocked higher than the other cores.
Do not use anything other than the same multiplier on all 4 cores=4x40 or 4x41. The reason is one higher clocked core needs more volts. better with 4 cores with the same voltage.
Processor current Limit 95.000A. Turbo max and short both 86W. Lowering cache ratio to 35-36 or 37-38 for stability
(no offsets yet i dont know what to take). Try The main voltage instead for offset voltage ~¨1.200mv up to 1.220mv if you MUST have more volts

Edit: Try Cinebench 11.5 and Wprime 32 and Wprime 1024 with 8 treads to verify the stability of your overclocking. We hope to see your results on this. Check temperature and wattage with hwinfo 64 this is IMPORTANT!

My Xtu profile that works well. On Alienware 17 With i7-4930mx. Siste xtu profil.png

Hi my friend, i did what u said and the problem right now is 95A works also 100A Processor current limit gives me a score about 10k in 3dmark 11 and 7.89 in cinebench r11.5 my temp on HWinfo MAX temp. 98c isnt that way too hot?

btw i get higher score only if i up the processor current limit... but after 100A it shut down with cinebench, 3d mark 11 works and i can get around 10700 on cpu score but on cinebench it shut down over 100A

do i need to repaste ? its the normal alienware paste on it, i ordered liquid ultra, should i use liquid ultra on my 880M gtx aswell? is it dangerous?

Yes, 98°C is too hot and will tank your performance. It's only 2°C away from thermal shutdown.

Using Liquid Ultra is the answer. It's not dangerous unless you are careless. Follow this guide for application and you'll enjoy the coolest temps possible. (The tip on the SLI bridge obviously does not apply in your case.) Also, go with the latest BIOS so you can use HWiNFO64 for manual fan controls. Alienware's fan tables cause the fans to stay inactive and run too slow to make the quiet PC nuts happy, which results in higher than ideal operating temperatures.

First question do u use it on ur GPU aswell or only CPU ?

my 4910mq can run 3,9ghz stable and thats all i cant go higher...but i dont understand dell overclocked it to 4,1ghz 41 20 39 39 and they had up the voltage to 1,240V i really dont understand why they did that? isnt 1,240v 2 much for the 4910mq @ 41 40 39 39 well i am really confused by the xtu settings, i am gonna disable the Level 1 OC from dell and try myself something but i dont believe that i can run 4,1 Ghz stable on all 4x cores. Could u assist me a little?

Yes, 1.240V default is way too much. That's enough for like 4.5GHz for the 4930MX. I use 1.175V or less for 4.3GHz with the 4930MX. The default Turbo Boost Power Max limits are set too low and so is the Processor Current Limit on the Alienware 18 with 4930MX. Does as papusan suggested and try his settings. He is getting good results and some of them may work well for the 4910MQ. I use all cores equal. The only thing I do differently is set the Processor Cache Ratio to match. I'm not sure what is unlocked for the 4910MQ, so some of the settings papusan is using may not be available.

I had Liquid Ultra on my GPUs and it worked great... no regrets at all. Look in the photos above and you will well an example of that.

I needed to take things apart and had to separate the heat sinks from the GPUs. I was out of Liquid Ultra and went back with IC Diamond (also an excellent product). Liquid Ultra is superior, but you really only need it for the CPU if push comes to shove, because Haswell is just crazy hot... more so than your GPU. Just be careful applying it to the GPU die, because the Dell MXM cards do not have a plastic shield covering the surface-mounted components immediately next to the GPU core. You don't want any excess paste because getting Liquid Ultra on those pieces could definitely cause harm to the GPU.

It is best find your adjustments on the multiplier on the CPU and the proper voltage first. You should also test out Wprime 32 and Wprime 1024 (8 threads). Especially Wprime 1024 because the test lasts for a while. Follow the temperature and throttling carefully. When you think everything is stable, start and adjust the processor cache ratio up incrementally and test in the same way as the multiplier. You do not use a higher ratio than Cashe 35 in favor beginning of the adjustments in Xtu. Remember no cpu is similar.

Ps: Now I run with 4x42 and Cash ratio 38 stable.

Liquid ultra arrived and is really doing the job, abour 9C down... My problem now is that even if HWINFO shows max temp at 89C it says that my cpu " Minimum clock was 2,9GHZ which is the default speed" i had it overclocked to 4,1 GHZ on all 4x cores but during the test at about the end of cinebench test my cpu clocks down to 2,9GHZ even tho temp are 86-89 what could that be? can i go down with voltage more guys? are my settings in XTU ok? what could cause the downclocking to 2,9 GHZ ?

Awesome job on the Liquid Ultra.

Your CPU is probably downclocking due to a combination of lack of power (amps/watts) and too much voltage. Haswell is really bad about doing this, especially with Alienware's default settings that exacerbate the problem.

Try bumping the Turbo Boost Power Max and Turbo Boost Short Power Max values to 100W or 110W (make both the same) and that may help. Also, you are using "Default" for Core Voltage and this is too much, even with the -50mV offset. Try changing the offset to 0 and manually set the voltage to 1.175V or 1.165V. I am using the following settings for the 4930MX at 4.3GHz, so 4.1GHz on the 4910QM should requires less voltage. The "yellow" settings are the power values I am using that differ from yours. At least try to match them and see what happens.

changing the voltage doesnt make any change it says 1.2 on hwinfo only if i set a offset -50mv it goes to 1.150 why is that? maybe cause i have no XM ?

    Hi
Test the computer and watch voltage during testing
During the test of Xtu benchmark Throttle all processors. Test with Cinebench and Wprime 1024 (version 1.55) for best performance and stability

i did it stays default if i put cpu voltage 1,175 but if i change the offset to -25 it works with 1,175v i dont understand^^ maybe cause its the 4910mq not a MX but why would i be able to change the offsets ? ...i tried everything i am not able to change the cpu voltage it has no effect only changing offset to -25 makes it go down to 1,75 guys xD also i am not able to run 4,1 stable on all 4 cores :c it goes up to 90C even with -60mv offset which means 1,140 which is low but still it goes with cinebench 11.5 up to 90C.

gives me score 8.60 or so... and single cpu score 1.83

Hi ive got a problem after i changed in bios the overclocking from off to on and turned the OC level 1 to disable i had no post. I did a reset with swap out the 4910 for a 4700 and back on....this worked good so i put the 4700 out and my 4910 in and it boot normal but now my XTU shows that my cpu max non turbo boost ration is x24 from the normal x29 and but x24 ix 2,4GHZ which is the 4700 clock... i tried to change it to x29 which is the 2,9 GHZ from 4910mq it even shows that its the default but everytime i change and reboot XTU says "couldnt apply the x29... did i destroyed the overclocked bios from DELL ? by changing the cpu to a older one? i just cant get the settings back i even tried to reinstall XTU no changes....flashing the A10 bios didnt help ...i rly dont know what to do to get my old settings back

Have you saved the default bios configuration once it had been set from the exit screen?

EDIT: bios Default optimal settings did nothing ...its still x24 = 2,4 GHZ non turbo clock instead of x29 and i cant change it as xtu doesnt accept it.
EDIT: Older bios didnt help, same problem..even the intel gpu is running on the 4700 clock instead of the higher clocked 4900 is going on?

XTU doesnt accept the default config ..after reboot it just tells me that it couldnt apply... and it just revert back to the 4700 config...lol my

even the intel gpu is downclocked...lol it has the clocks from the 4700 instead of the 4910mq..

is there any driver i can delete from XTU ? i believe it installed a driver...i rly dont know what to do

Maybe uninstall XTU and reinstall. It seems the 4700MQ settings got saved into NVRAM and it not resetting.

Try taking out all of the memory module. Power up and let it beep until the system shuts itself off. Immediately slap in one stick of memory... need to hurry before it powers up again (and it will). When the machine powers up it will probably beep 5 times (memory error) and this is expected. Power it off and then on again and see of tje 4910MQ settings are restored.

yea.. so retarded this nvram really makes everything complicated ... anyways its fixed after plug my 4700 back and unistall while using it XTU and plugin 4910 and install xtu again.
