I have gone through several other such threads but I still have some questions before installing win 8.

As per Batboy's thread here, http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...er-install-order-guide-alienware-systems.html

The install order for win 7 on r3 is:

    1. Chipset Driver
    2. USB 3.0 Driver
    3. Intel RST Driver / Intel Management Engine
    4. Freefall Sensor Driver
    5. Alienware On-Screen Display Driver
    6. NVIDIA Display Driver
    7. LAN Driver
    8. Wireless Network Driver
    9. Audio Driver
    10. Bluetooth Driver
    11. Touchpad Driver
    12. Media Card Reader Driver
    13. Alienware Command Center

Now the drivers listed on dell site for the r3 are only the win 7 64 bit drivers.

So for win 8 which drivers do i need to install separately and which all are native?
I will update this post and try to make it simple so that all new win 8 driver questions for the r3 can be answered here.

    For win 8:
    1. Chipset Driver
    2. USB 3.0 Driver
    3. Intel RST Driver / Intel Management Engine
    4. Freefall Sensor Driver
    5. Alienware On-Screen Display Driver
    6. NVIDIA Display Driver - NVIDIA DRIVERS 310.70BETA
    7. LAN Driver
    8. Wireless Network Driver - Killer Gaming :: Support :: Driver Downloads
    9. Audio Driver
    10. Bluetooth Driver
    11. Touchpad Driver -
    12. Media Card Reader Driver
    13. Alienware Command Center

What about the remaining ones? Where to get them from?

I just did an upgrade straight from windows 7 to windows 8. The only drivers that gave me issues were the killer wireless one and my Video card, but that was easy fixed by updating to the updated windows 8 drivers. Hope it works for you as well as its been working for me. :)

yea I think it should work just fine.. Just make sure you use updated video card and wireless card drives (depending on the card I think) and you should be good to go.

Your right, paid £130 for the SSD which is now worth around £90. Can get a 256gb for £140 these days.

Going for 680m in SLI everything else base. Will buy RAM, SSD and HDD separately.

got a good deal from Steve's rep on the main alienware forum page. The guy took £400 off and added Killer wifi, 1yr accidental damage and 8gn of ram. :D

And which driver are you using for that? The dell one, the one on killer website, or the generic atheros one?

    Hi guys,

I have alienware m17x r3 and I want to do clean install to windows 8 but I have few questions before I upgrade:

1- Which sata mode is preferred for my single samsung ssd pm810?
2- How can I install my AMD 6970M driver? Does switchable graphic work fine as it is in windows 7?
3- Do I have to update my Bios version? ( I have A03).

    Thank you.

    1. sata mode are we talking about sata 3 or something like AHCI because if were talking about AHCI then yes thats what you want to use.

    2. just how you would normally but switchable graphics could be an issue it does work with windows 8 i have a GTX580 and it works no problem with windows 8 but AMDs install order is different so i cant give you solid advice just install the drivers how you would normally.

3.No not at all no bios update needed but if you are on Ao3 that's extremely out of date the latest is Ao10 if you want i can provide you with the unlocked Ao10 Verizon if you wish which will keep your sata 3 speeds.

here is an install guide for windows 7 but i used the exact guide for windows 8 and had Zero issues i have been using windows 8 ever since release date. Just make sure you get the latest AMD drivers that support windows 8 LINK: http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...er-install-order-guide-alienware-systems.html
