    Hey guys!

Well I just got my 980m from Woodzstack today!

Hardware installation wasn't too bad. The one hurdle I faced was replacing the screws in the heatsink with new ones (included with the 980m). I wasn't aware this was required so this forced me te RE-CLEAN the GPU and heatsink, and re-apply thermal paste...

I am using Windows 10. I am on UEFI, disabled legacy, secured and win8 fast boot from the BIOS.

I have been struggling for an hour to install drivers with no success...

These are the steps I followed:
1- Prior to installing the 980m, I restarted in safe mode and run DDU to remove the Nvidia driver and shutdown. I installed the GPU.
2- Start W10 in DSE mode (I run some command posted on Techinfo to allow the legacy F8 boot command to select DSE from there). Booting into Windows, I can see a "basic display adapter" in device manager.
2- Try to install the latest drivers from Eurocom as suggested by Woodzstack on his W10 thread. While the setup allowed me to proceed to the step where I need to choose either express or custom, after a few seconds, the setup would halt with a failed error at the graphic driver step.
3- Found a 353.17 beta Windows 10 driver on Techinfo (posted by J95 if I remember it correctly) with an inf file for Optimus. Using that, I am successfully able to run the full setup. In device manager I can now see the 980m (yay) albeit with a warning sign that I need to restart in order to use it.
4- I restart. Upon logging in to Windows, the system freezes for 2-3 seconds, then everything is back to normal. Checking the device manager shows the 980m properly. HWInfo shows the GPU and it's temp: 45 degrees.
Opening Geforce Experience, gives me an error that no driver could be found for my GPU (normal behavior I assume). BUT going back to Device Manager, shows the GPU as "basic display adapater" again... Running the same setup for 353.17 gives me now an error "could not find compatible graphic hardware".

The only way to repeat step 3 is to run DDU again...

I have tried several drivers with no success... I would really like to get this working on W10. I hope I won't be forced to go back to Windows 8.1....

Can someone please help me with this?

Oh well, doesn't matter. Got sick and tired of this and just reverted back to Win8.1
Was able to install latest eurocom's drivers.
Ran 3dmarks and 3dmarks11, got just around 8000 on firestrike and 10500 on 3d11.
Max temp for gpu was 64 deg which is just ridiculous.... Very very happy so far.
Unfortunately i am going on a business trip for 5 days so wont be able to test the gpu before next weekend...

If you installed drivers on win10 it's already too late. It'll trigger your screen damage in next weeks even on win8

Yeah well I did along with the thread on nvidia. There is nothing related to what you're implying. No one had a death sentence put on their display. And practically all had some form of OC tool if not the dreaded evga precisionx. I have nothing like that. Woodzstack is successfully using a 980m on win10.

Know what? I realized something... I kept putting these Win10 warnings as being related to me upgrading to a 980m. The thing is, I have been using Windows 10 since DAY ZERO, as in the very first public preview build with my 880m. If I was at risk, I am pretty sure I would've been hit a loooong time ago. My Windows 10 was ALWAYS up to date and I was using the latest Nvidia drivers at all time...

Anyway, I am back on Win8.1 for now but I don't think my screen will die anytime soon. I know you had good intentions but no need to put people in panic mode for nothing...

nick81...what version of eurocom's 980m driver are you using? Could you please link it? Also did you do anything with the vbios of your card?

I got my driver from this page:
    http://downloads.eurocom.com/support/drivers/upgradeyourlaptop/Alienware/

17_R5_05AA1028_9xxM_358.50.zip . It's version 358.50. Be sure to select the one that matches the hardware ID of your card. In my case it was 05AA1028.

As for the vBios, the guy who sold me the card flashed it to Prema. Can't really help you with that as I didn't do it myself. The thread on Techninferno is huge so I am not sure which version he used... I am planning to research that when I have some free time but right now I am spending the little time I have with the laptop, gaming... Since I installed the GPU I've wasted a full day simply going back to Windows 8.1 from 10 and doing all sorts of benchmarking the next day to ensure everything is fine.
I was finally able to enjoy gaming on the 980m yesterday! Played some Arkham knight. All settings maxed out with fps never going below ~35. I could lower some of the settings and get stable 60 but 35 doesn't really bother me so I am sticking to that...

Flashing the 980M is quite easy.

Yeah I know it is but I just wanted to know how to verify it to be sure. Using NV Inspector showed that I didn't have the latest version of Prema so I flashed it to 1.1.1

One cool(er) thing I noticed now is that my TIM seemed to be even more efficient now as my idle temp is now stable at 35 degrees... It used to be at 39-40 a couple days ago...

By the way, I am using IC Diamond which Woodzstack included with his 980m. I had ordered GC Extreme but I only received it this morning... Do you think I should bother repasting with it? Even during load (playing an hour of Arkham Knight for example), temps don't exceed 66-67 degrees... I know it'll take only a few minutes but do you think I can lower my temps much more than that? And is it even worth it?

Just make sure you don't use PrecisionX or any other OC tool. NVInspector should be fine though.
