BSODS during boot ? If Yes check SATA operation mode in the BIOS. BIOS updates are restoring BIOS settings to defaults so if You had AHCI previously its probably RAID right now and its causing bsods during BOOT. You have to switch it to AHCI or leave it on RAID but You will have to reinstall whole OS.

Set to AHCI. There is no need to reinstall OS.

I've updated the BIOS of the motherboard two times so far, the BIOS of my mSata drive (Crucial M4) once, and each time I got a few BSODs and crashes, before suddenly everything ran smoothly again. Scared the heck out of me.

I just rebooted the computer a couple of times. Four times, if I remember correctly.
Each time I rebooted it, it would crash at a later stage of the bootup process, until eventually it got to the desktop and worked again smoothly.

It's kind of weird - I had the exact same sequence of crashes, with the computer hanging at the same successive stages of the bootup process, with the two BIOS and the SSD flashings.
I don't know what could cause that.

I guess that's not normal, is it? Should I even dare getting the newest BIOS update? :)
What advantages does it offer, anyways?
