Alright, here's my situation. The system in my sig is unfortunately gone. I had to sell it. I just moved into a new place with my girl and couldn't justify the $4k pricetag of that laptop, so I sold it on eBay and got the majority of my investment back.
Because I still need a good typing laptop (I'm getting degrees in psychology, I write endless amounts of papers), I purchased an Envy 17 on the interim.
It has the 720QM, 8GB of RAM, and the 1GB DDR5 5850. It's quite a step down from my old 920XM rig, but it's a good system nonetheless and it gets about 2 1/2 hours of battery life, which is cool from a 17 incher.
Here's the thing, obviously it just doesn't run games all that great. It's decent, but not anything that makes me smile. I'm still within the return period for the Envy, and I'm thinking about just returning it and waiting for mobile Fermi.
I loved my R2, but I had nothing but issues with it and the Radeon cards. I don't like (can't stand) AMD's drivers and whatnot, so if I were to pick up another AW I'd definitely spring for Nvidia this time. When do you think we'll see mobile fermi?
I'm really torn on what to do here, the Envy is much better for my productivity needs (it's 7 freaking pounds and if it wasn't for the awful shade of mustard/grey/puke they decided to coat it in, it's actually pretty sexy), and the keyboard is better for typing. But the m17x screams "I'm sexy, touch me!"
I'm not sure what to do. I paid $1650 for the Envy, and if returned, I probably wouldn't want to spend more than $2000 for a m17x, which means i7 dualcore most likely. Any advice guys? I found the m17x's keyboard a bit finnicky for serious typing (I get more missed keys/spaces on my m17x AND m11x than any other brand of notebook I've ever used). But, the gamer inside me looks at the Envy 17 and simply says "HALT! Bad decision!" So guys, when do you think m17x will see mobile fermi? This year?
EDIT:
I should clarify a bit further, I use the Adamo for taking notes in class and at work. For banging out serious papers, I need a much larger screen. My girl and I share a 27inch iMac in our apartment (she likes Macs, and it's actually a helluva all in one), so building myself a nice desktop is really out of the question due to space)

Not to mention the heat produced from the Envy 17 is just RIDICULOUS.
I've gotten that damn card up to 102*C.
That's not really acceptable in my book. You can tell HP has no idea how to make a gaming rig, considering that is essentially their gaming notebook (Voodoo Envy anyone?) -
any kind of Nvidia release will likely have similar problems unless they upgrade the PSU, but they wont. Nvidia has driver issues, thye just release a new driver every 38 seconds so its seems like they have good support. This is just liek when all there was were the 280s, and everyone was screaming give us ATI,then they were begging for the 5870s, now were all rubbing our thumbs together for 460's and likely it will failbomb like the 5870s. i would wait for a while youll be able to pickup a decent specd m17x for around $1400-1500 if something new comes out, but youll have to stand the ati cards. i cant wait for all the "my 460s arent as awesome as i thought they would be" threads to follow a nvidia refresh...

Well I'll be getting one when they arrive
And I won't be complaining or sendin it back
I'd expect you'll see it in 2-4 months. Either Thanksgiving or Martin Luther King day. -

Not too soon me hopes ...
I just got my R2!
Should we see the NVidia 400 or the ATI 6000 series in an m17x sooner rather than later, I hope one of you guys in the US will be able to purchase an upgrade on my behalf.
Cheers,

Nvidia driver experiences are noticeably better than the 10.8 10.8a 10.8b 10.8c stuff that ATI manages to put out. So there is a reason some folks are eager to have a more modern Nvidia chip show up on the market. Will there be complaints? Sure! But they won't include unplugging the machine and it crashes... -
the3vilGenius 3vil knows no fear
Just sell the 5870s in the alienware and buy 4870s they work perfect for me.

I've been over in the Sager/Clevo forum checking out the benchmarks on the X7200. Even with that ridiculous desktop CPU and a pair of 480s its barely hanging with the M17x in Vantage. You could always configure and M17x with a pair of Nvidia 285 GPUs. You'd have to spring more than $2K though. I have zero issues with my ATI drivers since the new VBIOS came out. I can't quite figure out why that X7200 only has a 300W power brick. We're already tripping this 240W brick on a heavy GPU OC with a darn mobile CPU.

You know which one you should get.
Edit:
Wait, you have an m11x and an adamo? Why? If I were you I would sell one of those and buy a better M17x...
Hey guys, when do you think we'll see a Fermi refresh for the m17x?
