Hi guys,
So I just did a repaste on my HD6970 GPU..5 mins after I did the repaste, gpu-z shows my gpu temp as +/- 53 degree..But then after a few days, my temp is around 68-70 when idle, and it can hit 85 degree in load..
what did I do wrong?do I have to repaste it again? I also changed the thermal pads to fujipoly premium .5mm, but I'm not sure if that is the right pad that I want..should I use the 1mm instead?how big is the gap?
Under the heatsink there are some blue pads which have around 1cm or less thickness(didnt measure it precisely); should I change that too?
please help me out in this..If anyone with repasting experience live nearby Alhambra,ca, I dont mind paying you to do the repasting for me..

What does HWInfo32 show? GPU-Z has been off for me and other forum members.

HW32info pretty much shows the same thing =(
and I notice the fan is spinning faster than before sometimes.. -

Did you put enough paste on to cover the entire core? The thermal pad thing could definitely be an issue. If it required 1mm and you used .5mm, there could be heat transfer issues. Did you keep the old pads intact? One of those two are your issue I'd be willing to bet. The paste pretty much spreads itself, but there's no way to compensate for thermal pads that are too thin.

I'm not sure if I put enough paste or not as I let it spread by itself as I reapplied the heatsink..
That's the thing, I'm not sure whether I should use .5mm or 1mm..I replace the old pads with the fujipoly, but I didn't touch the thick blue thermal pads.. -

This is precisely the reason I check the paste if I let it spread itself on laptops/notebooks. A lot of the time simply screwing the heatsink down on top of the GPU/CPU etc doesnt spread the paste properly. If you didnt check it this is likely to be your issue.

That's precisely what I do when using this method yes - although my current preference is the thick ICD7 paste which requires the use of gloves to spread it manually.
