Hey guys, been having a lot of fps issue with my m17x as of late.
I purchased crysis 2 off of steam and tried to play the campaign.
The game was quite unplayable at extreme graphic settings with 20~ fps and cf enabled at 1920X1200.
Everything is stock and running on catalyst 11.5.

How did this guy run it so smoothly?

Well that guy is playing the lowest avaliable setting, Hardcore is the lowest, very high is medium and extreme is the highest. But, you should absolutley get 50FPS+ with your setup. Try to disable CF and see if you get better results, but I think the CF problems has been solved though. You can try 11.4 graphics update with CAP.2.

50 fps on extreme? I tried disabling cf with no luck. Starting the campaign and barely getting 20 fps
Btw, I've installed cap1 11.5 installed so that should cover previous catalyst profiles right?

I haven't tried playing since I installed 11.5, but before I did install it, I was getting 40-50 on the highest setting. You should be getting more.

Ok. I see some people quoting 60FPS on extreme with a similar setup as mine. I hope it's not my cards failing

By highest setting you mean extreme graphics at 1920X1200?
    I'm getting worried

i get smooth gameplay at 1920x1200, advanced settings (not the highest, "medium"), in terms of FPS 30-60 depending on what is going on, average 40-45

    all drivers are stock Dell/AW

    Yup, Extreme at 1920x1200

Also, I wouldn't be worried. It's likely just a driver issue or some type of throttling. I would wipe you drivers and go back to 11.3 Cap 3. That was the best performance I got in Crysis 2. See if that helps. If not, you can atleast eliminate drivers.

Make sure you're not in stealth mode
    Make sure crossfire is enabled
Make sure you're in high performance
    11.3 Cap 3

for me there are "gamer" then "advanced" then "extreme"
advanced is in he middle that's why I call it "medium"

you are welcome :) if not the heat causes the throttling, then probably it is driver issue, try stock drivers maybe

Ok, so maybe my cpu was the prob. Did some changes to the minimum processor setting to 100% and can play on extreme at about 30 fps. High settings 50 fps.

I still can't figure out how some people can run at 40-50 fps at extreme and native res.
Anyone can shed some light as to the configs you are using?

Depends on the video card... Also figure that some people might be BS'ing their numbers .

I've got a completely stock R3, no overclocking, running in the Balanced power state, and am getting 26-35 no-foolin' fps on "extreme" running at 1440x900. 40-50 fps on 'extreme' would be pushing it with the 460M at 1440x900 or higher, but is quite achievable at 720p. The Radeon 6970 equipped R3's may be slightly faster than this.

Just tested multiplayer, can get up to 40-50 as opposed to to the 20+ in campaign. That may explain why..
    Thanks for all the input
That said, can I leave my minimum processor state at 100% while plugged in?

So long as you keep things like AA and Shadows turned down, you should be able to play just fine at the highest settings. There are some parts that will likely slow you down though.

Warhead will run better for you.

The 5870s are likely to run it a tad better now that is has proper driver support.

Still though, you should be getting at the minimum 30-40 on extreme I would think. It's not nearly as demanding as the original crysis.

Cleaned the fans out and now getting abou 30+ fps on the campaign. Sometimes more on the multiplayer depending on where I am.
Did you do any tweaks to the game to get a higher fps?
Thanks for the replies so far!

Hi T3Vince, so now you're getting 30+ FPS on extreme setting and 1920x1200 resolution?
Mind to share what version of driver/VBios and Crysis 2 patch are you using?
    Thanks. :)

Using catalyst 11.5a hotfix RC3 which you can download from amd's site, dell's vbios.
    Running crysis 1.4
It gets 30+ at some places but can drop down to 20+ at areas.
Still can't figure out how some people are getting those insanely high fps without tweaking the console commands.

I have tried Crysis and Crysis 2, both on FullHD maxed without FSAA. Crysis was something around 25 FPS, Crysis 2 30+ and looked smoother, in fact it run without any lags. However never get significantly above 30 frames.

Thanks for the answer. Same goes to me, curious to know how people got 40+ FPS when playing Crysis 2 on extreme on stock clock of GPU and CPU. :)
Nice, it seems like it runs great on M17x R3 with HD6970M, are you running on stock clocks?

Lower resolution? Its pretty easy to get 40+ fps on extreme at 720p.

Keep in mind, some people might be fudging their numbers.

While I have not run FRAPS while playing crysis 2. I never notice it lagging horribly only in the city does it run somewhat slower. I will take some screenshots with fraps running though, On Extreme settings as well.

I do have an OC on though. 825/1200
