Look what my tech did!!! Didn't even catch it till I called him on it and he said it was a new card that didn't require screws. WHAT!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
I don't blame it all on him. AW sent a card with no screw holes for the heatsink to be anchored to so what is he to do-right?
I booted the computer and the GPU fan stayed on full blast for about a minute and I thought "Something must be wrong". So I decided I would look and while I was at it go ahead and repaste with ICD7 like I always do. Much to my surprise this is what I found.

I try not to bash the techs too much but this is really inexcusable. You HAVE to know this is wrong.

Called AW immediately and they want me to send it to the depot so a "Real" tech can fix it. Just thought I'd post this to 'scare' all those that may be waiting for a 'tech' to come 'repair' your computer.

So here I am again-without the R3 for another 10 days at least. It's crazy. Gonna send it in and ask for some kinda compensation for the idiocy. I mean-how can AW and the tech miss that????

They cant force you to send it to the depot. You are entitled to NBD service, so it is their duty to send out a better tech to your house if you do not want to send away your computer.

My tech came today and didnt know how to remove the bottom panel from the computer.

Kinda odd guy but ended up getting the job done. I was nervous so I can imagine how you felt.

Pffft. Thing is, I have gotten to know mine pretty well and I took it to his house for him to do while I was at work. He has done all my repairs that way (5 of them). Now I feel he expects me to bring it over. Never again!!!

Instresting, dell replaced my faulty 6870. I refused the tech, so they sent the card directly to me and I did the replacement swap myself.

The new card did not have the bottom heatsink bracket... so I pulled the one off the faulty card and put it on the new card. But to say that new cards don't need it... uber fail. Without that bracket, the gpu heatsink will just kinda "float" on the thermal paste and may pop up breaking the connection with the gpu, leading to high temps and hardware failure.

A dell tech will never touch my laptop agian!

It would appear that some one perhaps had a screw loose...

^^HAHAHAHA!!! So you can remove the old screw attatchments?? I didn't look and the tech did not either-obviously. Good guy-but a fail this time. Never again.

Yes, the old bracket peels right off. It's held on with some sort of sticky/glue tape. I just put it on my new card, re-pasted, and everything was good to go. Temps are low on idle, and normal when gaming.

Still amazed he would not say anything about not being able to screw down the GPU heatsink, when he had to have unscewed it to remove it. He should have atleast called dell or said something. Really odd.

Yeah. Like I said, I try not to dog them out, but this is just ridiculous. And he actually called me after I texted him saying it was wrong and said Dell made a mistake-or "maybe I (he) made a mistake". Yeah, you made a mistake alright. Don't worry, you won't get that chance again.
