Anything I can try before replacing it?
The fan that's making the noise is the one right next to the HDD0 and HDD1 right in the middle. I tried taking it out and cleaning it with compressed air. I read people use WD40 but I always thought that stuff was conductive.. hmm. Any suggestions?

Where can I buy that fan at?
    Any links?

    M17x CPU fans

Or call Dell. I don't know what they charge. If your fan is going bad, you should be monitoring your CPU temperatures until the new one arrives. Are you still under warranty?

I purchased this back in July, Im not sure if it will be covered or not.
I didn't get a warranty, except the one year limited hardware warranty or whatever.

    Hi Sabaku,

If you purchased it directly from dell then yes you are covered still. You can give dell a call and get your fans changed. You can also check your warranty status by typing in your service tag into here: http://supportapj.dell.com/support/.../details?c=au&cs=audhs1&l=en&s=dhs&~ck=anavml
The service tag black strip sticker should be located on the underside of your notebook.

Explain to them your issues with the fans and they will most likely send out all 3 fans to cover all bases unless you insist to them exactly which fan is making funny noises or is the cause of your problems.

I would take the 3 fan change unless you really insist on changing the one that is faulty. Good Luck.

    Cheers. :)

Is this something that Dell would let you exchange yourself or would they need to send a tech? I ask for those that have the clip mod in place.
    Thanks!

Most of the times Dell will send out a tech to replace any parts. However there are instances where you can try to request the part be sent out to you or when the tech arrives you could ask them that you want to do it yourself while they supervise. Depending on the technician that you get they will or will not let you.

In the worse case scenario they reject your request and say they have to replace the part/s themselves. Then all you can do is sit with them and watch them like a hawk. Any damage they cause you will be able to claim warranty and compensation.

Also you shouldn't need to worry about the clip mod if all you need is the fans replaced. They won't really notice or care. If you really want you can change things back to normal before the tech comes out.

So yeh give it a try and ask and see how you go.
Personally I would like to do all replacement part jobs myself as well.
    Good Luck.

    Cheers. :)

Dell will let the customer replace the CPU fan, just not the GPU fans.

That is awesome. Come to think about it, when one of my GPU fans went bad, they replaced them both.

You may not need a new fan... you can actually pull the fanblade right out of the its socket and replace it just as easily... I do it normally to clean it properly.

However if you do that you must reseat it correctly OR you will get a metal grinding on metal sound (Scary)sounds.

To reseat the fan remove the outer screen on the bottom (loosten 2 screws) and then lay the laptop so the bottom is at 90% pointing str8 up(so you can see the fan blade) then stick a pencil or something like a pencil between the fan blades and press the power button then after a second the fan will reseat ... remove the pencil and put the screen back and your done. :D Ez

BTW: Don't use WD40(petrolium spray) on plastic or Rubber it eats it :(

    Hope that helps Sabbz

If you've never had an SSD, yeah, you're going to notice BIG TIME. The 8GB of RAM, on the other hand, you aren't going to notice a thing.
