Has it been more than 21 days? If so you may have to pay a restocking fee 15% I believe. Best way to initiate it is to call Dell.

More than 21 days and you can't return it. Also, keep in mind that unless you have funds to re-order, it will take some time for the $$$$ to get back to you.

Do I pay return shipping? Or do i just write/print the track # and reference id? And is there a restocking fee?

No restocking fee if you complain in the right way and justify your return. Otherwise they could charge 15%. They will give you a return shipping label via email so it won't cost you.

Talk to care and they will usually pay for shipping back. You will need to write the reference number on the box so they can identify the shipment.

The fee is up to them, however if you are upgrading it is usually waved.

I'd say you are good then. If they try and charge it later, you could argue out by saying you were not told about. Most people don get charged anyway according to previous posts.

I bought my m17x back in mid june, and got it on the 25th of june. Shortly after (as in 2 weeks), the 6990m came out along with this new discount they have going on now. I wanted to return my laptop to upgrade to the new stuff. I called customer support, and got a person in india. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I got transferred once, to another indian guy, but again, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I made the call tuesday 2 weeks ago, sent my laptop out on thursday (2 weeks ago as well), and got my refund last tuesday. Overall, the procedure was painless and I got my full money back, no problems. If you want to return, don't be afraid to. I found it worth my time and I'm glad I'll be able to upgrade to the new stuff!

Short story version: If you're in return period and want to return, RETURN IT. Its relatively painless and you get all your money back so you can upgrade to the new stuff.

Good info. I just ordered a 6990 M17 with the 25% off EPP. I missed my return period by a day when they announced the 6990. I also got a 4 year advanced warranty for a mere $265 thanks to the deal. Now I just need to sell my 6970 M17 on FeeBay.

open a claim NOW. the tracking number they give you is good for 30 days, but you have to file your return NOW before your return period is up.
