I don't know if the dim is suppose to protect my eyes, or just save power for the laptop, but its absolutely annoying. The dimming goes away if I put the laptop on sleep and then log in back again. But then the brightness is way too bright and vivid, so I use the fn + f5 option to take a notch down but then the dimming comes back again, even @ the highest brightness @ that point.

    It's a m17x R3, with the WLED 1600x900 screen with an ATI 6870m

I have power option @ high performance, GPU @ maximum performance, the power saver off...and I have the the "fn + f4" all the way up.

So what could this be? Why does it get super bright when I put the laptop on sleep but the moment I try taking the brightness down, the dim comes back?

Thanks a lot!!! need some help on this!

If I understand you correctly, the screen dims when you leave the computer untouched. In which case, go to the Alienware Command Center>AlienFusion>Quick Settings> Advanced Settings>Display. Under "Dim display after" set it to 0 minutes. This should prevent it from dimming.

If you screen dims while you're using your computer (i.e. moving the mouse, typing etc.) then I have no idea. Likely something wrong with the display or the graphics driver.
