I'm thinking of selling my R2 and looking at either an M14xR2 or an M17xR4...Wanted to know what you guys think of the R3's battery life.
I know that it should be improved with the Ivy Bridge, but I only get like 90 minutes tops on the R2, that's with the lowest brightness setting and AlienFX off, and that is with a brand new battery that I just put in this thing.
What do you guys think? Can you get 3 hours of word processing and web surfing off battery?

I manage a good 3.5 - 4 hours with my Sandy Bridge R3. I'm sure you'll be able to pull off 4 hours with Ivy Bridge.
-
WITHOUT GAMING. with gaming you would be lucky to hit 90 minutes.
-
5-6 hours word processing. I think I got 5 when I had switchable graphics.
Also: you just don't game on battery unless it can run on the iGPU. -
You can easily get +3hours
in fact with any kind of use between that "browsing/word/playing a video/youtube stream" and so i never got less than 3 hours
Usually i get 5hours before i need to plug if I'm not doing any gaming or video editing. -
Yeah no doubt, I never game on the battery, My R2 gets about 20 minutes on battery, lol.
Wow, that's a substantial improvement...Hmm...Has me leaning towards the M17x vs. the M14x...Thank you for the feedback guys. -
balanced I get 3 hours, but that is because of my heating beauty 2920xm, with 2760qm I was getting 5 hours easily
-
i agree...3 hours with iGPU. On battery the dedicated will just downclock.
-
if you forced the cpu to work at 800mhz, you'll be able to hit over 150 mins! maybe even much more with SSD! of corse performance impact, but still playable..
worked in my GT780DXR, I am assuming it'll work with M17x as well.

I get 2.5 hours on 3D because I have no iGPU functionality. Can't game but I can rock out a 3D movie on a plane albeit looking like an absolute plonker.

4.5+ hours if just web browsing. Probably around 3.5 if doing a lot of video watching or music listening.
I can play old games on the IGP but only get about 1.5 hours battery life. -
average 3 hours.
it will be less than 2 hours, if i am watching a move -
Then your battery is faulty or there is something wrong if you are using intel GPU instead of amd-nvidia and getting 2hours or less only watching a video.
For reference

Basically 5hours when wifi turned off and doing nothing serious that require power
+3hours browsing internet+streaming
+3hours playing HD video
So getting less than 2hours is weird
And their laptop is not using SSD which suppose to save a little bit more battery life
Also ivy bridge use less power so m17x R4 should have better battery life -
you should check the wear level of your battery..
How is the M17xR3's Battery Life?
