Below average? Average? Above Average?
-
It is well above average IMO. It is the best I have ever seen on a laptop. With the WavesMaxx audio control panel it sounds even better. I use a Logitech G35 headset and it sounds amazing. Even with ear buds the sound is very good.
-
Sound is bangin on crappy earbuds, I agree. Also, on my Altec Lansing headphones, it sounds like surround sound when I'm playing Crysis. Not sure if it's cuz of the good headphones or cuz of the soundcard, or cuz it's a modern video game.
-
Using Logitech G35 takes the onboard sound 100% out of the equation.
-
simply put: sound card good, speakers crappy.
-
I think this is one of the best laptop speaker I have used.
On headphones while it rocks your world I can literally feel the vibrations sometimes lol -
A laptop with a good onboard audio processor???? what are they using in the R3 now
-
The speakers sounded really great when I first received it. But the more I use this computer, the more the sound sounds more "tinny" (aka without any bass, whereas there seemed to be tons of bass initially).

It uses a different card from the R2 92HD73C1 vs 92HD73 for the R3 the sound from the R2 atleast leaves a little to be desired I would rate it average. It really is better than most laptops, but desktop sound cards it is definitely not comparable. Seeing as the R3 uses a variation of the IDT soundcard in the R2 it may have some improvements, but if someone with both wants to comment on the difference in sound quality that would be awesome.

strange all the old IDT sound cards I ever had were garbage. Hubby has an R2 and an M18X and I dont find the sound in either of those too overly great. I have almost always resorted to an external DAC

I totally agree, I also use DAC's or external soundcards. I use a UDAC2 and am currently playing with the Sound blaster X-FI Pro and I never use the onboard anymore. I Use the UDAC2 for my AD-700's, sen 595's, and my ATH-M50's and the soundblaster for my HPA2's, because it is the only decent external soundcard that supports 5.1 out. -
Yea I realized that they are a USB audio device after I posted but I just thought I would get the word out about how good the G35s are. +1 for catching me
-
Could you elaborate on the quality with the ad 700s sound with that setup on your m17x? Been thinking about grabbing that type of thing myself for a little while now.
-
sound is good until I enable any type of enhancement then the volume starts to do some sort of audio auto level which completely ruins it, this only seems to happen when playing mp3's, it is highly annoying, I believe it is a windows problem and not hardware, to get rid of this effect I have to disable all effects like EQ mega bass etc, if anyone has a fix for this I'd be keen to have it

The AD-700's are good with the UDAC2. The sound is not so muddled and tinny like the on board sound. Bass is lacking still, but it is better than the on board which is almost non existent. Basically the UDAC2 is night and day compared to the On board and any headphones I plug into it I can hear the difference immediately. Awesome little DAC and great headphones for music, I just don't get the HYPE about them for gaming. -
Alright cool, thanks.
How is the sound card in the R3?
