Just curious if you can purchase the extended 3 year plan at any time within the first year? I would think they only give you a month or two before you have to decide otherwise people could take advantage and only opt for a extended warranty once something goes wrong?

You can usually extend your warranty as long as it is still covered under the existing warranty. (USA and Canada) other countries may have different rules, best to call the local Dell office to confirm.

I have also known other who have been expired a few weeks and still managed to get an extension, but those are more the exception to the rule.

I just ordered my m17x last week. I took 1 year warranty and accident coverage and asked the same question to the dell rep. He said that one month before the warranty expires, i can call to have it extended (at a price, of course)

I was told by 2 different people over the phone that I could still extend after the warranty is up. They said i had a 30 day period in which to do it, after which it would go up 100 dollars.

The warranty is expensive as hell to extend though, like 400 dollars for 1 year.

Thats all fine - just be aware that what I quoted came directly from Dell -

Just because a phone person says this doesn't mean that they (support) will agree to it when the time comes.

My advice, always go with the longest warranty possible at time of purchase if you can afford it and want to protect your investment. If you can't and want to extend it later, do so BEFORE the initial warranty expires.

As you mentioned, its costly (very) to extend it after purchase. :(

still cheaper then buying a new alienware. I think i will forever keep my warranty from now on lol. 400 euro a year and never have to buy a new laptop again. if the model is finished you even get the newer model.
