I purchased an m17x r2 without any customization or upgrade and it's been in production for a week now. Should I be worried or something? I don't think a stock laptop should take that long to build

How long should ANY laptop take to build? Give me the parts, and I'll have it to you within a week. Sounds reasonable to me. I really hate that it's gonna take THIS long to have a laptop built. I could have 4 or 5 desktops fully built and software installed in one day at home. Don't understand how a laptop AT A FACTORY WITH AN ASSEMBLY LINE aka CREW could take this long!

Don't forget they probably do some testing to make sure that it works. Yeah sure I could do that in a week, will it work? i don't know, I'll send it to you and you can find out :)

They probably have different people for different parts, one guy does the CPU, another does the GPU. Then they check it to make sure everything is in it, and that it works.

It's also an estimate, many people have gotten it before that time.

Obviously it's an assembly line type of manufacturing process, so 1 week should be plenty of time. I'm aware that Intel says 2/14 is when they'll ship the new hardware, but will Dell receive it sameday/next day and be in time for my EDD of 2/16?

    So frustrating!

you guys have got to remember that dell most likely have millions of customers and the factory most likely have other orders to process as well. does mean that the moment you click "buy" they start building your laptop immediately. there will be thousands of orders ahead of you, and they will have to process those first.

That's right guys... Not only Dell products but alienware also do desktops and 3 other laptops. Being an international company I'm actually pleased with turn around times so far.

I'm hoping that at least part some of our notebooks were already assembled prior to the Intel "stop".

anyway, to answer the original question,

my system was ordered on the 13/01 and was delievered to me by 27/01.
and until the 26/01, dell status website listed it as in production. only on the 27 morning did it change to "Shipping" and 1 hour after that, i received a call from the shipping company to inform me that delivery will be done in 30 mins.

so, dont put too much faith in dells status website.
also, dont expect your order to be as fast as mine, given the intel fiasco. your orders might take around 3 weeks. so just sit back, and wait for your R3 to arrive. the more you think about it the longer it will feel.

Oh for sure. It feels like this month's going by hella slow because of the wait... I find myself checking and calling every day on the weekdays.

I think that is expecting way too much. We are talking about a motherboard, pretty close to the starting point of production. Even if Intel shipped on 2/14 overnight, I don't think you can expect Dell to build and ship in less than a day. I feel your frustration. CSR called me friday night and told me it wouldn't be until April. I sure hope he is wrong.

April? You serious? Hopefully he's referring to the so-called "full recovery expected in April" which Intel's been saying, and is published by like every website. I hope they really do start shipping by end of Feb, cuz we're approaching it fast.

To be honest, I don't take anything the CSRs tell me seriously. If it weren't for the coupon I used, I would have cancelled my order and re-ordered later. I know your in the same situation with the discount you used. I may call and aske if they can give me another coupon code to use at a later time if it won't be until April

even if intel has enough stock to supply dell. i dont think they will be able to ship the chipset overnight. we are not talking about a few hundred pieces of chipset that they are shipping, most likely, it will be in the ten of thousands. and chances are, they will ship with via ships. not air frieght. and there is no way on earth that dell will be able to build your R3 in one day and get it shipped to you. also, dell will most likely have to test the new chipsets for anymore problems. so... i would say around another week or 2 of testing before it gets put into production again.

there is a 99% chance that your order will be delayed by at least a couple of week or more. i believe you will be able to get a slight discount for all the delays caused so far.

Hopefuly the qualifing phase won't take long since there really is no change from the B2 stepping to the B3 other than to correct the issue.

What discount do you speak of? Warranty perhaps? Cuz I didn't upgrade the warranty...
