    When you have your m17x stationary for an extended period of time, do you leave the battery in or take it out?

    Hi,
    The poll needs better clarification. Leaving the battery in the system is fine unless you never discharge it. Also, if you're leaving the system stationary for a long period of time, and it is turned off and not plugged in, it's best to remove the battery. It's not good to discharge the battery and leave it dormant.

    Thanks,
    Gabe

    What's the point of having a notebook if you use it without the battery? Battery is your cheap UPS during spikes/surges/etc. ;)

    @GabeZ,
    not many will actually leave their systems unplugged when turned off, but good point.

    Agreed - battery in 24x7 since delivery. Same with all my previous laptops. Cheap UPS FTW.

    I leave the battery in all the time.
    What I've noticed , if I leave leave the machine on and it goes into suspend (sleep) whichever mode, then later that day I just disconnect the power plug from the back of the computer the battery will be drawn down about 3% per day while it is still in suspend mode. I noticed this one time when I powered up the system after a week of absence and the battery was down to about 52%.. How did this happen I thought.
    I'm assuming it is keeping all the memory active.

    I've also tested this by leaving the power brick plugged in to the computer but disconnected from the wall socket and machine in suspend mode. The draw was the same about 3-4% a day. I'm wondering if the brick will draw power from the battery if the power plug is disconnected from the wall.

    Just some thoughts.

    What I do now is shutdown the computer and disconnect the power plug from the back of the computer if it is going to be some time say two days or more before I re power the system.

    This seems to work and does not draw any battery power at all.
