Hey I am planning on buying the m17xr3 and since it is not available on the Dell website I wanted to know where else could I configure one just to see the cost. I am gonna wait for it but I want to know will it fit my budget of 2000$. I know the base model costs 1499$ but here is how i want to upgrade it. It would really be helpful if anyone could provide costs for the things below
    HDD- 500gb 7200rpm
    OPTICAL DRIVE- bluray reader
    DISPLAY- FHD 1080p(non 3d)
GRAPHICS CARD- could u give me the price for both amd6970 and the nvidia gtx 460m.
Also I wanted to ask how easy is it to upgrade ram and the HDD. Also how many HDD bays does it have. Thanks.

Going off memory here, upgrade to 460m was a $75 add. 6970M pricing hasn't been revealed, but speculation is anywhere from $100 to $200 more. I don't remember the HDD, but usually Dell charges a premium here, and you can save some money by choosing the smallest drive and then purchasing one yourself later to increase capacity if required. There are two drive bays, so you can easily just slap another one in there without worrying about copying your OS over, or reinstalling, etc., if that makes you uneasy.

    Blu-ray was a $150 add I believe.
    1080p 60hz screen was also $150 I think.

I chose to upgrade the processor to the 2720, added blu-ray, 1080p 60hz screen, 460m, and went for the smallest (320GB) hard drive and I came in just above $2000.

Anyone else, feel free to correct me if I'm remembering wrong. It's been a lonnnnnng week.

Bluray was only $100, 1080p 60hz was $100 and the Nvidia Kit with the 120hz panel was an additional $150($250 total). The 2720 was an additional $150, and the 2820 was an additional $3-400($450-550 from base). The 460m was an additional $50 to start with but then they raised it to an additional $75 after the first few days. The order I got was:

    2630qm, 3D kit, 4gb ram, 320gb hdd, 460m, DVD, 6300 wifi

It came out to $1900 shipped and taxed before the discounts I finangled out of Dell. I don't think you're going to get the config you want, especially with BR and the 6970, for $2k or less without some very major haggling.

I think i will choose the 460m as i prefer optimus over AMDs manual switching. I had a question about upgrading the ram, how easy/difficult is it for the model, i hear two of its memory slots are hard to reach. Where is the preinstalled memory at- the hard to reach slots or at the easier to reach ones. Also if i want to upgrade to a hybrid 500gb drive would it be a good idea to install it as an additional drive or does it have to be the primary hard drive( with the os on it) for it to make a performance difference.

I believe the 2820qm was 350 over base, 2720qm was 150 over base. Bluray was 100. Follow their advise on the HDD, you will save far more in the long run. 460m was 75, 6970 is unknown, but probably 100-200 more than 360m.
ram was too much, that's all i remember. like 50$ for each gb of ram i believe.

This is great news - I've been concerned about not having enough money..

Have around $2400 to spend for shipping and all, Hopefully I can snag a $2800 PC for $2200 or so.. Would make me very happy :) .. Was planning on upgrading RAM / HDDs myself so I might save even more there.

    -2720 was $150
    -1080p 60hz was $150
    -460m was $75

These were the prices through dell when I ordered. Of course, because I ordered through aafes, the total price was -30% off. So 1874 x 0.7 = $1311.80.

Regardless of when you buy, you should get 2720+1080p 60hz+GPU of your choice. The first 2 upgrades are best bang of buck imo, and you won't have buyers' remorse fer shizzle.

Not sure if it applies - I have never ordered from Dell before, you might need to add your state tax to your order.

Thanks for the link, I've been looking EVERYWHERE to get an idea on price... What I'm looking for comes to $2600 (Including warranty, not including shipping + tax)

Now just to see if I can talk my way down a few hundred bucks and maybe slap a coupon on there :p

No still don't have it. Going to be somtime because i'm on Okinawa and had to use ShipIt APO. My EDD is still 4/18 too. I think the 4 year was $499. Have it on my XPS too and had to use it when i dropped it. I wasn't going to go all out but that 30% off at AAFES i could not help my self. When you said it ended on 1/27 i was upset, but when i started to build my R3 on 1/31 the EPP discount was over $1200. I cheked the next day and the sale was over. BTW thank you for the AAFES info!

So did you end up getting it with the aafes discount? If yes, how much was the warranty? I regret not buying it.

Hell no. I'm gonna make 'em give it to me for cheap, by making me wait this long, and depleting me of trust in them. I'll letcha know how it goes.

I'm not angry in them for making ME wait as I understand its Intel's problem.

I'm angry that everyone acts like they have no clue when the m17x r3 comes out when its supposedly going to come out tomorrow.. Going to be even more pissed if it does come out tomorrow because I've been told for weeks HURRR WE HAVE NO CLUE!!!

I'm gonna reply in the Intel R3 thread. This thread should be closed, or discussion should be moved to WNSIB or the order status thread.

    Thx
