Ok so this a noob question but how do you go about over clocking your GPU? Im playing the Witcher 2 on high settings at 1080p on the Radeon 6970.

Also, how do you check your frame rates?

Im new to PC gaming so im struggling a little bit. :)

JOE85, did you get it all to work for you?

If you look on the threads for "Witcher 2" and "6970 overclock" we talkd alot about what you are wondering.

Will OCing allow me to play Crysis on Very High everything, with AA on 8x, and get higher FPS? (Currently, according to Fraps, the fps is around 20something).

Not sure about Crysis but when I tried OCing and testing for Bad Company 2, I gained about 10-20fps if I'm not mistaken.

Not sure. Maybe....just try it. Let me know what you get. I only OC Witcher 2. I'm being cautious with ding that. I might do it for lost planet 2 cuz that game is pretty demanding.

I think yes, the 6970 overclocks pretty nicely. I would like to think going from stock clocks (680/900) to around 820/1100 would make a pretty noticeable difference. Just have some kind of gpu monitor open and check on your temps every once in a while. Anything above 85 and you might consider backing the clocks off a little and/or re-pasting.

I have successfully overclocked my 6970m to 890/1240+ during some intense benchmarking.

Haven't repasted yet. Also, since I have 3year+accidental coverage, should I be even more apt to OC for funsies?

I already use that for OCing but I am referring to a program that "flashes" my clocks as in, I don't need to change them every time I reboot.

also one more thing, you'll need to run this command before you're able to flash for the first time.

    atiflash -unlockrom 0

once thats done, you'll be able to flash your card.

Is Trixx one of those permanent OCing progs, or does the lappy return to stock clocks once you shut down and reboot?

It has an option to re-apply OC settings on Windows startup
