i can do both videos on you tube if you want... (CPU & GPU) with your name on the credits of course in the discription...
-
btw great cpu vid, im going to follow that in the future. + rep
-
no one saw this?
-
I don't think anyone is doing a gpu replacement right now. I'll download it and watch it.

Not the same one I have but it should work. I use this:
-
nice, thats what i need in the future. Thanks for the vid!
Hmm so if i only ordered a single 260m gtx, then would i be able to put another 260m gtx in there? or even put in a 280m gtx? Also I couldn't see where would i place the second card into?? What does it look like for the m17x? Any good pictures. -
There is a black plastic cover where the second GPU would live. You can see it easily when apart on the furthest right hand corner. I also only purchased one gpu and plan to upgrade later....Good Luck!
-
yea ... you can see it in my video
-
. Sad to see it go to waste, sorta.
-
they arn't the greatest ill admit
-
one quick question, when i call alienware, do they do the upgrade, or do i do it myself? Pro and cons?
-
when you call DELL they will either send tech out and have them do it or you ship it back
-
added a surprise for people in the OP
-
Thanks dude, Appreciate your effort in putting up this video.
-
Hi moo...thanks for the vid.
I just ordered a new M17x and I was planning to add in a second graphics card since I only bought a single 260M...so I was wondering if you would use the same methodology to add the second card. Thanks. -
.....yes that is why i uloaded it
-
I also want to add a second GPU, but I wanted to know if there is a second special connection/cable I will need to use to enable SLI or do I just plug it in an it'll be good to go?
-
you weill need a SLI cable or a Xfire cable
-
-
order one from Dell

the3vilGenius 3vil knows no fear
Which GPU's are compatible with the M17x? or any future models or something?
-
i responded on lapgamer
-
great video and helps a lot, thanks and i love you
-

MWHHAHAHAHA LOL... again... -
so he only had 1 260M? If you have dual sli, I'm assuming the other card would be symmetrical on the other side where he had a bunch of black shiny plastic empty space-ness?
lol -
yes that is correct
-
Man, I should turn this video into a drinking game. One shot of beer every time you remove a screw. I'd be drunk in no time!
-
Should watch the CPU guide to get hammered
-
you can also use a dental floss plastic tool to lift the touchpad use the pointed end of it. its MUCH MUCH safer than a screwdriver. good vid though

Is your keyboard all right after the pull Moo? I think you and I both were at a loss for words when we saw that.
Anyways, thanks a bunch. I will definitely tune into this video again when I want to change out my Dual 260M's.
Oh and a quick question, would this void my warranty? Would replacing any parts do that (I don't have my M17x yet btw, almost here though)? -

Sure but don't post it as your own ....
Verdict is still out on the 260 and 280 -

Yes and you can get it from Dell

Go to the mediafire link and you can download it there
-
Cheers for that! -
Good job Moo.
So Dell makes these stupid construction choices? I thought they would have learned from the mess of replacing a card in the original M17x, but that's still too much work.
EDIT: Oh lord, just watched the CPU video... wow. Take a page from Clevo ffs. Take off the backpanel, take off a heatsink, done. -
And if you think its awkward to repalce a cpu on the M17x, try do it on an M1730. Worst design Evar -
i know this is the GPU thread, but wanted to say thanks for the cpu video Moo, was very helpful when i swapped out my q9000 last week, the task seemed daunting at first, but now i'm pretty comfortable taking it apart =D
good job! -
-
Yeah, I said M17x, but meant to say and linked to a video of the M1730.
-
It looks much easier with the M15x but here's hoping they improve it with the next 17" gaming system...baby steps.
-
Sad to say that this was the first time watching your vid moo. I spent some time today cleaning dog hair out of my M17x, and needed some info on how to get into some hard to reach areas.
I have an Akita, so the total amount of hair pulled would equal a hairball that could kill even the fattest of all cats. Think I shall name it Bono and feed it bitty.
