Sometimes, it takes ages to read a DVD (probably due to the DVD itself) and the entire desktop just freezes. Pressing the touchkey on the top right corner (the eject button) makes no difference whatsoever. DVD remains inside unless I force reboot the system.

Usually it happens when I'm installing. Back when I had my Toshiba T310 (I think) laptop, I could just force eject the DVD and reinsert it should the installation progress freeze. I can't do that with the M17x though. :/

Is there a force eject button for the M17x?

Try right clicking the drive in Windows and select Eject.

That didn't work since the fault lies with the DVD itself. It's faulty, and I constantly get cyclic redundancy checks on that one. So if I were to right click it from My Computer, the window will freeze indefinitely.

Isn't there a button somewhere to forcefully eject the CD drive?

I've seen issues with the Blu-ray reader drive. If you try and eject it when the drive's busy, it just locks up the drive. Sometimes you can get software to force the drive to eject, but usually you have to reboot.

I haven't seen any updated firmware for the drive, and I doubt we'll see any for a while.

I get this problem quite frequently with my m17x, can it be due to a faulty drive?
