    Hey everyone,

I just want to share, how i modified my own screws to be able to use them on the X-bracket of my 6990m. If the moderators decide that this topic is useless, they are free to delete it , or merge it with the main topic on installing an 6970\6990m into the R2.

OK, here is my pretty little Dell 6990m, with Phobya pads on it. I bought 0,5mm , but then they turned to be too thin, so I just put two pads one on top of the other.

I used some 70% alcohol to clean up the card before installing

And some of the tampons that my girlfriend uses to remove the make up from her face

Here is the biggest difference between the 6900m\7900m bracket and the old 4870\5870 brackets. The 6900 bracket is about twice as high as the 4870\5870. And therefore if u use your old heatsink screws, you will get 0 pressure from the heatsink on the card\core\mem.

Therefore, I removed the C-clips and the screws from the heatsink, and then reinstalled the C-clips on the screws. In the end they looked like this

Then I Installed them with the C clips over the heatsink. But you've got to be carefull, because they easily fall of now. Just like this.

And here is my 6990m with MX 4 paste on the GPU

After this I installed the card and just in case, put some Elecro-resistant duct tape on top of the screws ( Isolierband ). At the moment I am using 12.10 ATI drivers With this setup, and a book under my R2 , playing StarCraft 2 and Age of Conan @ high details, with GPU\mem @ 740\1000mhz 1.1v I get temps max 79. Never passed 80. Maybe if I remove the book, temps will be no more than 83 or 84. Still I intend to do some more testing and modding in order to get better contact between the VC and the heatsink, because I feel that it could to better. I am using HWinfo 64 to control my fans and I am still trying to make a table with reasonable quiet\heat ratio. I will be grateful if any of you share your tables.

    Cheers
