Hello, I have been searching everywhere on google and even looked at dell website for the manual for the r3 and cannot find any information or guide to actually replace or remove the lid on the r3. There is not a guide out I could find and I have searched everywhere. I am thinking of changing my black lid for a red one and that is why I need some help on this issue. If anyone knows please let me know thanks!!!!!!!!! :D

I have checked that manual and it does not say anything about removing the lid only the whole display assembly from the chassis.

my bad fix the link, it pretty simple on the r3, just need to take off the media cover and keyboard and you'll have access to remove the screen.

NastyNate - You have to replace the whole assembly. The LCD is glued into the top portion. You can not replace it without a LOT of work.

I was told by a rep at dell spare parts that the lid costs 55.00 and can be replaced just like the lid on the r2 yet there are no guides anywhere on how to do this. So you are saying if i want the lid changed i have to get the whole assembly shipped with the screen already attached?

It's not glued at all. I watched two techs replace the lid on my R3 and it is very straight forward.

All you have to do is follow the guide to remove the entire panel, once you get there, there are two screws holding the lid to the LCD at the bottom. Remove these then you must slide the LCD panel away from the lid. If you have a replacement lid/panel look at the hooks on it to guide you on how to remove the current lid from the LCD.

Yes a guide would be very helpful, but it must be for r3 cause the r3 is different from r2. ;)

I thought you meant remove the lcd screen from the lid itself...You just want to change the top out? I have no idea. I think it is clipped in or something myself.

Dell techs refer to it as the LCD backing and it is indeed seperable from the LCD itself. There are screws on the bottom of the panel that you'll have to remove. You'll need a spudger and plenty of confidence to pry it out after the screws are out. Its definitely not covered by your warranty if you decide to do this.
