I have an Alienware M17xR4. I currently have it so that the computer (aka the AMD 7970m) determines whether it will run a program or turn it over to the Intel HD 4000. The problem is that the 7970m is not be recognized by a game in terms of what graphic cards are there. I have in the AMD control center that the program is to run the 7970m and not the Intel HD 4000. Because of this I suffer random crashes in the game all day long.

In the past when I actually manually selected whether I wanted to run on the Discrete GPU or the iGPU I lose the automatic switchable graphics, meaning, from now on unless I uninstall and reinstall the drivers I can only select to run on the iGPU disabling the Discrete GPU or the Disc. GPU and disable the iGPU and only doing an Fn-F7 will it switch to the the one that is disabled and disables the one I am on now. Is this how it is suppose to work. If you take the power in your hands to select which GPU to run disabling the other, then you can never return to the state where the AMD/Intel software determines when it is best to run a program on the AMD and when to run it on Intel.

Any advice on what I can do to have AMD/INTEL, igpu/Disc disabled, igpu disabled, AMD active options short of always reinstalling the drivers or system restore.

With AMD you have to do a manual switch. Either you let the program select (whether it's wrong or right depends on many factors) or you manually decide which video card should be used by using the FN key. This is the expected behavior.

With nVidia, you can keep both on and use Optimus. You can then add to a list which softwares you prefer to use with the nVidia or Intel cards.

i am not 100% sure, but i think you must flash a non-Enduro vbios to the card and have it switched to Discrete mode with OSD software.

That is Smi correct. Just get it in Discrete graphics mode, and you will be fine. Skip the Intel HD Graphics.
