Hi all. I use my Alienware 17X closed and hooked up to a workstation. Once the laptop goes to sleep, the only way I can wake it is to open the lid and press the power button.

Is there any way to wake the laptop without opening it? The keyboard and mouse attached via a switchbox do not wake it up.

well i dont know if you can wake up the laptop from sleep when lid is shut

what you can do is set to it to NOT to sleep when the lid is shut
Click the battery icon>power options>choose what to do when display is shut

A sidethought: Wouldnt the laptop get extra hot if you run it with the lid down?

Could you make use of Wake-On-LAN somehow?

Sorry about the late reply, I had family visiting.
    I don't use it much, so it doesn't over-heat.
I would leave the lid open, but my cats would walk on it.
I will check the BIOS option.

That was it, daveatx. I had to enable "Wake with USB" in BIOS. Thanks! Much easier to use now.

I would recommend to leave the lid open, specially if you play games on your second screen otherwise it will generate unnecessary extra heat.

Press Windows key + P to swtich between the second screen options, leave it on second screen only. Then Press Fn + F11 to turn off all the lights (If the touchpad stays on right-click on the AlienFx tray icon and uncheck Keep status zones On during go dark.
