How would I hook this up?

Hi, I have a question. I have the alienware M17x R2 with the crossfire 5870s. I also have a real nice Dell 27inch lcd computer monitor that I used with an old desktop. Is there a way I can use the monitor with my m17x r2? I hook up my usb mouse and keyboard boot up my m17x and use the video out to my monitor and It works. My question is when i close the lid of the m17x so I can see the monitor behind it the computer goes to sleep mode or something. Is there away I can close the lid and just use my monitor?

 

Yes you can, There are a few settings you must change.

Setting 1

right click the power Icon and select advanced power options then in the left hand sided list click on "choose what closing the lid does." in the drop down menu choose do nothing.

Setting 2

You can either extend, show only on Desktop 1/2, duplicate

right click your desktop and choose screen resolution it will be the last drop down menu.

also you can hit FN + F6 to cycle through these. You would want to choose show only on desktop 2
