    Hey guys,

I came across a genius idea here. Instead of selling my M17x to finance a TV and another, cheaper laptop, is there someway I can connect my PS3 and use the laptop as a display for it? This would solve a lot of problems. Best of both worlds :D

But how? I know it has an HDMI out, but not in. What would be the most cost-effective way about this?

There's no way to do that.

Next generation laptops will be implementing this, but as of now, yeah, you're screwed. The Sager/Clevo x7200 has a spot for HDMI in, but it's covered. I run my PS3 through a nice 24" Dell monitor on the same desk I keep my M17x on. I feel your pain though, I also want this option bad.

why not just get a monitor?
24" monitors can be had for under 250 easy

I have to admit for traveling, being able to run everything on one LCD is very desirable. Even if it is only a 17" monitor. I wouldn't use this just sitting around my house.

HDTV's are cheap these days. Go to Amazon Warehouse to find some awesome deals on open box items. I just recently purchased a 46" Samsung LN46C650 for $746 shipped.

Some kind of capture card could do the job, probably would need a USB3.0 or expresscard version to be able to get a good framerate.

I got this to work once using a capture card.. but the lag was noticeable and made playing not enjoyable.

This was a few years ago so maybe with newer tech (ie.. usb 3.0 or esata or express card slot or ?????) things might work better?

But I agree with the others that say you should probably pick up a monitor on the cheap and just run it through there (this way you can use it as a second monitor for your laptop and run your console through it when you want).

There's been a lot of discussion on this and while there are ways to get the input to display on the laptop, the issue is that the response time (delay between the system sending a frame and the screen displaying it) is significant and makes the game unplayable.

I feel your pain I'm on the road a lot. I work in the mid-east and carrying m17x + a PS3 + gear is hard enough but a Monitor too... Not happen!

My best advise is to buy the sager x8100. I've been talking with xoticpc and they claim that the PS3 works well with there hdmi input. I need to double check that with a forum member *hint hint* ;)

Also from what I here express card adapters don't really cut it. If you figure it out though post it! Please! My back is killing me! lol

Agreed with Joker, HDTV prices are dropping. And to boot I work part time at best buy so I can get one super cheap with manufacturer accomodations. Going to be setting up a sweet home theater system in the coming months. Abd open box is the way to go as well.
