Hey guys, sorry to start another temperature topic but I really need answers.

I'm using Sapphire Trixxx, GPU-Z and hwinfo64 to check the temperature of both of 5870m after I re-pasted with mx-4 just now.

I see temps improvement on GPU 0, it use to idle at 49 now it idles at 43. Exact temps right now at 46 core/44 mem/46 shader. Load temperatures ain't bad, about 80ish

GPU 1 on the other hand, isn't reporting a temperature when I run furmark, it just shows core and mem speed 700/1000mhz but no temperature reading. But what absolutely freaks me out (screamed "HOLY SH*t" out loud) is when I look at hwinfo64, it reports core temperature of 164 degrees, dispIO is 60, mem is 164 degrees and shader is 94 degrees after 5 seconds of furmark.

What is going on? I also ran 10 minutes of BF2 and there was no crash, I was testing out the laptop and when I minimize the game and saw the temp I almost fainted. Wouldn't that kill the card right away at 164 degrees?? Or is the temp reporting wrong?

Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks X_X

wow, I don't actually know anything at all... but huuuu wouldn't your laptop feels extremely hot when you get such readings ?! Try and (*hum*) pass the palm of your hand all over it especially the bottom (for the r3 that's where it would be)... anyways :D hope for your sake it's just a sensor or poor reading.
On the other hand... if it was a bad sensor telling your card that... it should throttle back shouldn't it?! :S

Just to ask, was it at 164 degrees fahrenheit or celsius?

it was 164 degrees celcius and it wasn't a bad reading, the GPU didn't throttle back which I find weird. GPU-z report over 130degrees+ on a 2nd furmark run too so the GPU heatsink definitely had issues. In Trixx I checked "Disable ULPS" which MIGHT be why the card didn't throttle. Anyways it's really crazy it hit 164 degrees, I've never seen my desktop pass 100 degrees so I'm just happy nothing got killed.

I opened the laptop multiple times, re-pasted and re-seated the slave heatsink. That fixed the issue. ALSO, I put thermal paste on the heatsink (a small grain of mx-4) and that helped tremendously. Now the temperature idle at 50C for both cards, and in furmark both cards are around 82 degrees. It's a huge improvement because before it will be 94-98 degrees so I'm very happy with the result in the end.

Now my final goal is to lower my 920xm temp, tomorrow I will open her up one more time, add a dap of thermal paste to the cpu heatsink and hope she'll cool down.

I see, well congrats on finding the problem, and good luck with the pasting :D
