I can't find anywhere that hyper x ram comes in 4gig modules, does it not? I want to replace the ram in my system with hyper x ram and did not see 4 gig only 2 gig. Other than hyper x, what is the best ram on the market that comes in an 4 gig module? TIA.

I couldn't find it either. I caved and bought 8GB of G.Skill. It really doesn't matter what you get, honestly. You could get that 'Wintec' stuff from Newegg and be fine. I just chose to pay a few extra bucks and have something a little more 'brand name' which will help my resale value sometime way down the road. If the RAM doesn't fail on the first day, it will probably last for the rest of your life.

Great thanks. I'll look for the G Skill and sometime way down the road, let me know if you're selling it, lol. I love this one but my son wants it desperately. I thought I'd upgrade the ram either way.

Everything I read says that 8GB of RAM is completely unnecessary currently. If you threw a QX9300 in your R1, it's not too far behind the R2. The OEM chips are like $550 on Alienware eBay. Either way your son would be getting one beast of a computer.

Ah there's the issue, I'd have to pay someone to replace the processor. It games very well, just sometimes has an issue when something ends up running in the background that I don't know about, ie security essentials. I wouldn't want to replace the processor myself. I'm good, but there are just some things I don't play with and it's still under warranty with Dell. Can't replace the processor until warranty runs out but then I think I'm going to update the warranty so it's protected for him.

I don't think Dell cares if you replace the CPU, you've just got the have the same one that came with it installed if you ever have to return it. Just toss the old CPU in an anti static bag and put it somewhere safe. There are tear-down videos all over the place. If you take your time, it's not a big deal.

Hmm, I read here that it voids the warranty.

Well, maybe I worded that wrong...what I meant was...keep the old CPU just in case, because what Dell doesn't know won't hurt them. ;)

Changing your CPU, RAM, and HDD will not void your warranty as long as you don't do any damage Dell will not, however, support the new parts which is why you must keep the old CPU in case of Depot repair or replacement as TurbodTalon said above.

I know the GPU is user replaceable as well, but not 100% on if that will void the warranty. I wouldn't think so as long as you have the originals.
