Ive just installed my 8gb hyperx 1600mhz ram in my m17x r3 i7 2820qm and set the bios to xmp profile 2 1600mhz speed and it just resets the profile to default and runs the ram at 1333.

Ive tried xmp profile 1, setting speed to auto etc...just resets every time...any suggestions??

Do you actually have the XMP versions (blue) or the grey PnP ones?

the text itself is blue... im not sure if thats what your asking though...

im linking this from someone else but when i save my bios it looks exactly like this ImageShack® - Online Photo and Video Hosting

and ive tried that with both xmp 1 and 2....when it reboots and i check the bios it has reset to default xmp profile...

Probably need to be RMA'd. I have the same rams and they work with XMP Profile 2 fine. If your next pair show the same symptoms then get some PnP instead.

the problem isnt that they dont work its that the bios just resets to default...would this actually be an issue with defective ram?

    haha heres a new one...

i guess they sent me the wrong ram because it says i have 12 gb of ram installed...

is it possible they sent me 12gb 1333mhz sticks instead of 8gb 1600mhz?

my computer says ram installed 12 gb and cpu z shows 12288 mbytes size...

Where did you get the RAM? As for a refund because it is likely that they changed the ramsinks and stuck them on one 4GB one and one 8GB one and at least one of them runs only @1333.

ugh im so confused...please someone help me...

it seems like its still somehow registering my old ram as well as the new hyperx as cpu z shows ram slot 1 as being hyperx 4gb slot 2 hyundai 26b slot 3 hyperx slot 4 hyundai (hyundai is the stock ram)

so its registering the 8gb of hyperx ram as well as the 4gb of hyundai ram that i removed from the system...

which is also probably why i cant run at 1600 because its somehow picking up that i still have 2 1333 sticks installed....

How many sticks of ram did you install? You have a total of 4 slots in your machine. Two on the underside that are easily accessable and two below the keyboard that are much more difficult to change.

If you have more than one type of ram installed they will all default to the highest common profile.
