I just got a hyperx headset for christmas, and the headphones itself works when plugged in, but when I plug the microphone into the microphone jack and select the line-in, it's not receiving any sound. Anyone have advice?

Make sure the mic is not muted, then go into the "playback devices" and check that the headsets mic is being detected.
If its all showing up and plugged in right try to reinstall the drivers. I have been having issues with nvidias drivers overwriting my sound cards drivers so the mic doesnt work untill I reinstall the sound drivers.

Also check for a mute button on the headset itself :)

Yup do this for sure.. my dear Cosair HS40 USB headset has this habbit of muting itself due to the large mute button along with the volume controls on the headset cable..
