I received this laptop this afternoon. I installed starcraft 2 and then played for about 5mins.
Then the laptop dead, no response. I restarted it, I found the screen devided into two parts ( uper and lower and the picture is the same) and I can not see the desktop. After it can not be started at all. What can I do?

Howdy newbie. Welcome to the forums. For reference, you should post questions about your m17x R4 in the m17x sub forum. We will be able to see them better and can get an answer to you more quick-like.

Get in touch will Alienware support and tell them the system arrived non-operational (which technically it did). A split screen like that and the system not starting afterwards points towards a hardware issue. There are Alienware support reps here in the forums who can help you as well.

PS: if you play your cards right you can get your system exchanged for one with better specs.

I will use this laptop for playing Starcraft 2 and Civilization V. How to set the video option? Can I set it in extreme picture quality ?

Depends on what video card you have. AMD and Nvidia will have the same option in their respective control panels to set individual game profiles, but getting to the game profile screen for each control panel is a bit different from the other.

Not really. You just need to go into the Catalyst Control Center and under application profiles, you can set a profile for the specific game you want max graphics on.

I hope your unfortunate start with Alienware doesn't set you back to much. It's very unfortunate, though this stuff can happen to anyone.
I hope you enjoy your machine once it's fixed, it's a beast :)

Set your video in the game itself, with your specs you can max out pretty much anything you throw at it at the highest resolution.
I wouldn't touch ATI CCC to much if you don't know exactly what you're doing (I never touch it actually in general for these kind of settings, all do it in the game).
