I am playing Tron 3D blu ray on my m17x r3, however every few seconds the movie stutters. It is quite unbearable and very annoying. I dont know what more i can say to explain the problem but that is basically it. I dont know if it happens with regular blu rays as this is the first movie i tried. Any help would be appreciated, also how do i update the drivers of the blu ray drive? Thanks in advance guys.

If you're using PowerDVD 9.6 that came from Dell I was seeing the same issue. It went away when I upgraded to PowerDVD 11 Ultra. You might try downloading the free trial and see if that resolves it.

thanks for the info much appreciated... i tried using power dvd 10 ultra and my 3d wouldnt work with it, do you think it would work with power 11 ultra?
-
I have 11 myself, works perfect.

The OEM PowerDVD that came with the laptop seem to have some issues when playing 3D Blu-ray films... I would recommend PowerDVD 11 Ultra as it works perfectly for me now and I haven't encounter any problems yet. You can also watch 2D video files in 3D, the conversion is the best I've seen so far.

11 works fine for me with the occasional stutter.

9.6 - the version that comes with Dell is known to have issues. They (cyberlink) were supposed to release a patch for it, but they never did. Try to get version 10 or above to fix the issue.

Silly question but does powerdvd only come with systems that have picked bluray drive?
-
thanks for all the help guys, after hearing good things about power dvd 11 i tried the free trial, and have to say there is absolutely no stutter. Now i have to get my hands on 100 bucks to purchase the full program. Thanks again guys all your help was much appreciated.

should be a free upgrade since their software doesn't work or do what it's supposed too do

Does nVidias own 3d Vision player run Blu-Rays? I use this on my Alienware desktop, it is a reskinned program from someone else who I cant remember at the moment. Ive only used it to play from files though, not a disc. Its free and offers multiple viewing methods and you can change the depth of the 3D.

A quick warning about using the PowerDVD upgrade.
I bought the upgrade to PDVD10 Ultra on another machine that had come preinstalled with PDVD9. If you ever plan on using your PDVD you upgrade to on another machine you must upgrade from an identical version, or the upgrade file you download will not install. This is an often complained about issue on the PowerDVD forums and Cyberlink's response is that you should buy the full version to avoid this.
If you plan on replacing your laptop be sure to keep the installer for the PDVD you have (both the preinstalled version and the installer for the upgrade), just be sure that the preinstalled one isnt keyed to the machine its installed on or you'll still be SOL. The key you get when you buy it will only work on the specific version you downloaded, believe me, I tried it on multiple other installers, both full and upgrade to see if I could get it to install, but it is specific, fortunately I found my original installer file. The larger issue was finding the version of PowerDVD I upgraded from since I no longer had my old laptop which I bought it for.
Keep in mind, they also charge you extra if you want to download your PowerDVD installer again after more than 30 days from your purchase has passed. All in all its some pretty shady business practices.
After the issues I experienced getting my PDVD10 that I BOUGHT to install, I will never purchase a cyberlink product again. -
I purchased PowerDVD 11 Ultra a couple of days ago and it performed like garbage. BluRay movies were so choppy that they were totally un-watchable. After scouring the internet for hours, I could see where this is a common issue. It seems to be a common theme on the CyberLink forum as well, with no real fix being offered to customers. On a whim, I reinstalled the NVIDIA Verde drivers for my GTX 580M SLI and it started working properly.
I only bought this because of the interest in Cuda support. In hindsight, it was a waste of money and time. Nero 10 Multimedia Platinum HD has been working flawlessly for me since the day I bought it as a new release. I should have just been satisfied with it, but learned from the mistake. Hindsight is always 20/20.
Another gripe about PowerDVD 11 Ultra is the annoying advertisement spam. I wrongly assumed that garbage was a "feature" of the OEM PowerDVD 9 BD version that came pre-installed on my Alienware. I now see that spam is just as prevalent on the retail distribution. It's trying to sell me what I already own, LOL.
My advice to anyone reading this is to save the headaches and get the latest Nero suite with BluRay playback, editing and burning features. -
You should try Total Media Theatre. The only software that I thought had a good balance of features and reliability.
I need help with 3D Blu ray
