I can't modify the multiplier anywhere past 24x on my 920XM without the computer seizing up on me. Not to mention my temps are causing the CPU to throttle when I push to 3.2GHz on all four cores.

I hit around 95*C when my CPU goes into passive mode and I can change that, but I'm wondering if my CPU heatsink has gone bad. I've got a new one sitting at the house, from factory with the stock TIM on the contact plate even. But one real question I'm wondering about is, what temps do you get? I'm seeing around 80-84*C across the CPU when I'm pushing 2.53GHz across all cores. It's about 266MHz faster than what the stock boost is but I've only got one GPU, the 6970M, and I want to have a CPU that's faster than this. It's an XM CPU for a reason.

I use Throttlestop 4.1 for my CPU overclocking and I've got the TPL at 90w/75a for when I push a bit higher. Anyone else care to enlighten me on this subject?

(I've looked over the R2 guide everyone keeps posting but it doesn't explain ANYTHING. It gives generic info that I can find via google.)

Here is what I do. I'm copy and pasting this from another post where I posted this due to my lack of time/laziness at the moment. But ou can figure it out. Also the new heatsink may work a lot better. I've had that issue before where no matter what I did my CPU overheated. Got a new heatsink and it solved my issues.

    DR650SE, thank you. :) I'll give that a shot when I get home. ^_^

However I've gotta ask, what's a good TIM I should use? I ran out the other day and only have the stock compound that's on the spare heatsink. :(

As for Theredninja, If you're constantly running your CPU at 3.78GHz, that would be the reason. o_o

other thing to check is if your OC in the bios. I had better luck with bios oc on default when using throttle stop. 27x and 80watts was my sweet spot. Temps would get to around 86C with wprime 95 1024 test.

Ic diamond is excellent, didn't realise how good it was until I got a free tub with my 7970m. It's recommended to heat it up and use the rice Grain method
