hey all, i have another thread but no one responded i think it was a bit gloomy.
Issue im having is no boot (8 beep code) , but yesterday it started as 2 beep code (memory).
I took out the GPU and it still beeps 8 times and gives up, shouldnt the BIOS run if the GPU is the problem? does this mean its the motherboard ?![]()
please respond to stop me from impulse buying another laptop that will become a paperweight after 3 years of light, well maintained use.

What system are you using? If you have no IGP then no it may well not boot without a GPU.

its an m17xr3 (6870m), it has the switchable iGP but i guess it needs to be hotkey switched. I'm basically just trying to find anyway i can to verify that the motherboard isnt shot before i buy a new GPU for it. ctrl alt delete works without the GPU in it but still the 8 beeps of sadness.
I'd like something more definitive to convince me to go ahead, those new sagers are looking sweet right about now. the whole backstory is in this same forum probably one or two posts below this one, i think it was just too depressing for the M17x owners to reply to. I would really appreciate any advice/input as 300 used seems like an awful gamble for the new gpu considering its age and limits.
I should still get POST without GPU right?
