    Hi!

I would like to upgrade my CPU for my M17x R3 that I currently have. First of all I'm wondering if it is possible and SAFE? My laptop is getting pretty hot and I'm wondering if it could be "dangerous" of upgrading it because of overheating?

    This is the spec:

Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
    System Manufacturer: Alienware
    System Model: M17xR3
    BIOS: InsydeH2O Version 1.0 A10
    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2630QM CPU @ 2.00GHz (8 CPUs), ~2.0GHz
    Memory: 8192MB RAM
Card name: AMD Radeon HD 6900M Series

I bought A OCZ Vertex Agility 3 SSD 120GB Last week-end. I also have the Seagate Momentus XT 500GB HDD.

I'd like to upgrade it to a 3GHZ.

    Thanks!

All laptops are designed to be "safe", as in they shouldn't catch fire and melt into a puddle of plastic of you push it too hard.
As far as getting a stronger processor that's 3GHz or more you can look for an i7-2700 series like the i7-2720QM. Those will be compatible with the R3 sandybridge.
You should post your temps so you can get feedback into if your system is not cooling like it should.

Just a quick question , why do you need the 3Ghz processor . Also it is completely safe...thr are some beautiful guides here for CPU replacement...also you can get some good deals on a 29xx series processor..i have seen a few being sold to around 350$ ....but they can go close to 500-700$ (so that might not be the best processor) :D but i mentioned this ...so if you watch this thread you might get a great processor and even better deal......not sure what your budget is like .....but yes the cpu upgrades can be pretty easy ....also keep me posted..cause i have the same processor :)
