Got my M17xR3 13 days ago, and it's been fantastic. But, when I ordered it I was told that the free xbox deal didn't apply to the M17x.

Called them up today and asked if it applied, and was told that it DOES! Told them I want an xbox - they said I'd have to return mine and reorder. So, I did. No restocking fee...

This also gave me a chance to make some changes. I had originally ordered it with the i7 2630M - I bumped that to the 2720M. Also, I had gotten the 1600x900 screen (thinking that would be better for my aging eyes), but regretted it after doing more research. So, bumped it to the 1920x1080p screen.

And, I'm getting the xbox now. :)

there's no way to get them to add it after you order? even if it's in processing still? i plan on ordering through aafes, would be interesting to see if i could get the free xbox on top of the affes discount ;)

I would have done the same exact thing honestly. The fact that they wouldn't just honor the fact that you recently purchased it without going through the trouble of returning it is dumb though. You got those upgrades, which is good.

Dell support is such an intelligent and cost effective system. When I told them my M17x R3 was missing the secondary drive caddy, they wanted to replace the entire laptop instead of just sending me the missing item. I didn't wanna replace a perfectly good laptop and risk to get a bad quality one, so I just got the caddy off ebay instead. Yay for Dell support which is the most horrific customer service in the history of man.

Who qualifies for the free XBOX?

I just had my R3 replaced due to defects in the original. Wondering how the XBOX deal applies to replacement systems?

i bet that if you talk to a nice dell csr, probably not one of their helpless outsourced people, they'd let you in on the deal. simply because you do not have time to re-order since you're deploying :)

    Im wondering about that too.

Had my m15x legacy r3 replaced with m17x r3..paid £591 for additional extras...

So does it entitle me to xbox also?

p.s - from the UK if that makes any difference?
p.p.s - replacement is currently in production and has not yet been shipped. out

Some of the details are at the bottom of this page:
    Dell Student Verification

Looks like it's Dell USA purchases only...

FYI - they shipped my Xbox immediately yesterday (even though the new M17 isn't scheduled to ship until around the 26th). Tracking shows the xbox will be delivered tomorrow.

You have to be a student to get the free xbox.. meaning you have to buy from a college .edu email address etc.

    Heres teh link. http://content.dell.com/us/en/eep/d/campaigns/welcome-to-dell-university.aspx

Plus aparently Dell inflates the cost of the system you buy by doing some marketing tricks and forcing certain components, so that means its not really free. They tell you that you get a $250+ savings and give you the xbox, but if you do the math you end up only saving $30-$50 off the real price which equals the $200 cost of the 360. So with many systems in this deal you do actually pay for the xbox in the price of the computer..
    Pretty sneaky :p

    This article shows some examples.

My kids want an xbox. And, it gave me the opportunity to reorder and change some things that I should have ordered differently in the first place.

Hard to believe, but this xbox has shown up already - exactly one day after I did all this on the phone with Dell/Alienware.

Didn't take it long to get from Tennessee to Michigan.

Orderd my m17x tuesday nite and go the xbox today. I wish the computer would come that quick :D

As for the pricing... I know what my rig was priced for. When i asked about the xbox I got the price of the rig reduced by exactly 199 dollars. They then charged me for the xbox (including 10 dollars tax). It all worked out fine and they explained it prior to placing the order. So the xbox wasnt exactly free it cost me 10 dollars. That is still a pretty good deal! The reason they do it this way is so you have a reciept for the xbox with the retail price on it for warrenty purposes.

Because I can play the Xbox through my Alienware... Duh,,, no because I can sell the Xbox and turn it around, saving me $150-$200 on my laptop...

I enjoy gaming on my xbox and 47" Led tv..... its much more "relaxing" than mouse and keyboard, but they have their benefits...

I talked to a rep who said that the reason they require you to send it back and re order is because your not really getting the xbox for free, they add it into the cost somehow she just wasnt exactly sure how...

I was going to get the xbox deal........ until I found out it couldn't be paired with student discounts and coupons. With xbox it was going to be borderline 2000 dollars, but with discounts, it came out to be just over 1800, so it doesn't really matter which way you go.

Call aafes first and see if they'll let you add it to the order. Ask for the dell rep. I think his name is Mike. If they don't give you an answer, you should order, and then when the order has been submitted from aafes to dell, you're now dell's customer. Then, you can just call dell directly and have them deal with your request, which is a request for the xbox ;) They should be able to take care of you as long as you're within the deal's deadline/offer period.
