    Hi all!
Im trying to bring back to life my M17X R2, I bought a I7 920XM and I've sent it to the tech shop who is helphel me wit h the assembly, today the tech guy wrote me saying that the i7 920XM ia not recognized for Windows 10, instead it display Core i5. Is there a trick I should apply in order to a proper identification of the processor?

Where did you buy the 920XM from? I've never heard of that issue before.

To be honest, sounds like that tech shop are trying to screw you. Ask for the laptop and CPUs back and do the job yourself to confirm it.

Impossible, either the tech shop is lying or somebody sold you the wrong CPU

IF your last CPU was an i5, AND you didn't re-install the OS, yes, Windows will call it the old CPU name.

Open Device Manager(on Win10/8.1/8, press Win+x and open it from there), and then there is the CPU in there, expand the CPU/Processor, right click Uninstall, reboot, its now correctly detected on Windows.

This happened to me a lot changing CPU's, sometimes Windows picks it up, sometimes not, just follow the above.

If you last CPU wasn't an i5, or you are starting from a clean install, or it also shows up as an i5 on the BIOS, its a rebranded CPU.

I had a 520 before, and they reinstalled the system, but it display 520. It's hard for me now becuse I'm far away from thethe shop, I'm waiting until they figure out what happened.

Edit: What you mean aa rebranded CPU? Even more clear, doea it mean that they refurbish it (I know it's used and then retouched) and they called it 520 instead 920XM?

Ive suggested that to them but not sure if they checked that already.
I bought the unit from Keystone, which I think is a reputable seller.

There is also the option that they didn't swap the CPU's, or put the i5 back in again..

How can you lose a CPU.....bigger question is why did you not install it yourself. It is very simple....8 screws altogether, 4 of which are permanently fixed/cannot fall out
