I am getting my system from Dell next week. I'll give it a try after image copy a backup. I will let you guys know.
From what I understand that 10.6 is a no go, but just checking. That also makes the forum a fun place to visit.

I would definitely give it a shot, since you have a new system coming. Just install 10.6 right over the stock drivers, thats what I did. -
Catalyst 10.6 was available on many websites. Perhaps you have a beta or patched version?
-
Yeah thanks man it did help.
I never overlap my drivers, and i installed and tested 10.6
earlier with clean install , With sleep/wake issue's. I currently have the dell stock drivers installed clean now. Ill throw the 10.6 on top and see what happens.

Hi Viper
I did not realize that you installed the drivers over top of the Dell drivers. When you do that you are leaving old drivers behind and not getting a clean install. Although your system may say 10.6 it probably is still the old Dell driver. Although your system might appear to run well it could have unusual behaviours down the road with this install method. The Catalyst instructions are very clear about removing the old catalyst first for obvious reasons. Glad it worked for you but just pointing out the obvious.
P.S. The fact that you could install over top of one another may indicate that 10.6 and Dell stock are not all that different. -

I have always just installed on top of the old since the 9.xx days. I've only rarely ever had a problem with that, and when I do its obvious, because the update wont take. But the majority of the time, just like the 10.6, the drivers take just fine and everything I check says that I'm on them.

Ps. Please link me to where ATI clearly states the old ones must be removed before installing the new ones. Their CCC application has no issues with just writing over the old stuff, I dont know why they wouldn't just make the application REQUIRE a removal and then reinstall if it states it must always have a clean install. -
Hi Jon
Im glad you asked me because this information is extremely hard to find. Hope it helps everyone. AMD has put together 4 handy videos.
1) How to identify your card
2) How to download drivers
3) How to uninstall old drivers
4) How to install new drivers
Go to the bottom of the page and click on the boxed links

By the way this information is NOT contained in the release notes. http://www2.ati.com/relnotes/Catalyst_106_release_notes.pdf
P.S. Quote below from release notes. This is why Catalyst is not installing properly for some.
AMD Mobility Product Support
Catalyst™ Mobility is a notebook reference graphics driver for with limited support for system vendor specific features. Support is available for Windows Vista and Windows 7 to be used at your own risk.
The Installation Verification Software will prevent driver download on certain notebook products. This is to protect against the installing of drivers that may disable features or functionality provided by the system manufacturer. If unacceptable behavior is experienced using Catalyst™ Mobility it is recommended to revert back to the driver provided by your system vendor for your specific platform. Please contact your system vendor for the most recent drivers for your notebook. -

Falcon,
Great information, I never actually did that unless I had problems. I agree now that its the 'preferred or even required' way to do it, but I do believe I am at 10.6 and when I compare my previous vantage scores to my prior ones on stock dell drivers, I see a very noticeable improvement. (score wise)

I just installed over the old ATI Catalyst, I guess. I mean, I never deleted or uninstalled anything (ATI-related) prior to downloading and installing the 10.6 update. I just downloaded the new upgrade and installed it and that was prety much it. I didn't even know that people were having an issue until I came to the board on an unrelated issue and saw the 10.6 threads.

Welcome to my world. Was my exact same situation. Did it, had no issues, put it right on top of the original stuff, and had no idea anyone else was having issues with it.
Thats why I started this thread, to help see if we can figure out why me and others (like you) are getting it to work, and why others are not. -
looks like I am getting the R2 tomorrow.
I guess I'll give it a try, I only have 2 games to test: Crysis and COD -
