Hey guys, i want to buy a m17x
got a few questions first, why is it called a notebook, not a laptop?

and when i was choosing the options for it, it said ALIEN FX COLOUR: PURPLE. YELLOW, RED, BLUE and so on and so on

i thought you could change the colour in some sort of software when you get the laptop

but then when i carried on slecting it said select OS customisation: Alienware GUIse and some other wallpapers, im not sure what to choose, is it all really the same but just a different wallpaper? can i not change the colour of the keyboard? and then it says AVATAR, what is this for please?

    much appriciated if you help

im only 15, getting an apprectiship and i want to buy it :)

The terms notebook and laptop are used interchangeably. However this beauty is kinda big for the lap :).

The colors you chose are just for the purpose of how the people at Alienware will set it up for you. Yes you can change all the colors of the keyboard and other areas with the with the command center software, you will enjoy that. The avatar is unimportant and you can change it, it is the screen that shows while booting up.
I am not sure about the Alienware GUIse but I think it is the background such as wallpaper and icons etc.

You will love this machine. I have owned mine for almost a year and a half and just received my R2!!

    Welcome and enjoy!

Thank god Dell didn't use "bullet-resistant shield" for M17x lol

Anyway,I guess the R3 should be out in a very short period. That means, you might get pissed when you find out that the r3 is out after a month of your r2 purchase( but I don't exactly know when r3 will be out)

If you are not in a hurry, then just wait for sandy bridge to come out. From what I have been reading, the quads will show great performance increase over the current-gen quads

I sometimes use my old M17 on my lap without a problem. The M17x isn't much heavier and certainly isn't bigger (thicker, yes, but not bigger in the other dimensions)
