    Hello!

First off, my main card peak on 82C under full load and slave card 79-80c, with 25.5C roomtemp.
I am using a 180* flipped Zalman nc 2000 (se pic).

I use this cooler because both the Cryo lx and the CM sf 19 are not available here...

I am looking for possible ways of improving my temps even further, I will not repaste the gpus and cpu, because if I do that I will lose my warranty. Of course I will not do the famous retention clip mod. The computer does not have any dust stuck in the vents, as it is only about a month old (r2 is still available in europe), and I have only had time to use it less that 20 hours total.

    My questions are:
1, Can I improve the temps by buying a new cooler? In that case what model should I go for (not cryo lx)?
2, Is there any new gpu bios, or similar software that could improve the temps without voiding the warranty?
3, Does the temps need to be improved, or are these temps already good?

    Thanks in advance

Repaste doesnt void anything. Your temps are fine BTW. If you are concerned you can probably disable one GPU and run the 5870 on the 900P screen as the second GPU really is only used well for the extra screen real estate on the 1200p screen.

    Thanks for the fast reply.

If I disable one gpu, will it improve the temps of the main one?
About the repasting, are they able to see that it is repasted? Im concerned about this because the Dell support guy told me that any tempering with the computer will void the warranty. This was the Swedish support, so I guess it is diffrent depending on which country you are in.

    Hi there Simplified,

Your temps are very normal. However to improve temps even further. The only real and best way is to do a thermal repaste. As long as you are careful doing it and do no break anything in the process then you will be fine in terms of warranty.

As for normal temps of the 5870 GPUs.
They idle around 40 - 50 degs C and under gaming load can go up to around
75 - 85 degs C. Even up to 90 odd degrees C depending on the paste job and other factors.

    Cheers. :)

Reborn thanks for your great reply :D
Since my temps are normal, I will wait awhile before I decide to repaste, as I always have a tendency to spoil things...

Thanks a lot and have a great day!

The answer to that question is: Yes. The thermal paste that was applied at the factory (by machine) onto the heat sink was square, flat and slightly larger than the chip. Unless you can reapply the paste perfectly in that order, DELL can tell that it has been tempered with.
I have never read any post or article about DELL went to that extreme yet (here is the USA).

You know what I use for cooling? It is a tiered paper trey from the dollar store. It is wire meshed. I don't have access to a camera now but it cost a buck and works better than any Cooler I have ever bought because it is elevated 3 inches from my lap, and is completely vented due to the thousands of holes from the wire meshing. It weighs about 4oz and allows the sufficient AW cooling to do exactly what it is supposed to do :)
