I have a intel core 3740QM processor. The idle temps are always around the 45-52 degree Celsius range. But as soon as i get gaming, about 10-15 mins in i easily hit 80 and then mid 80's and sometimes 90.

A couple weeks ago i re pasted my CPU the temps fell down for a couple of days. But about 5 days later the temps came up to mid 80's again while gaming. Am i too paranoid. Or should i re paste the CPU again ?

I play a lot of CS:GO and BF4. The laptop always sits on a cooling pad 24x7 and is plugged in.

    Comments and advice appreciated.

    Thank you.

High 80's to low 90's is normal for a CPU while playing games like BF4. The GPU is what you don't want reaching into the mid 80's and above. You should only worry when the CPU starts to reach 95C+ every time you play.

Run something like HWInfo right before you launch the game and play for about 30 minutes. Then go back to HWInfo and see what the average temperature was.

It will give you a bit more realistic temperature(the average) rather than the peak temp you would otherwise see in something like realtemp.

I monitor in-game temps with HWINFO and msi afterburner. And i set a beeper when the temps cross 85. I have consistently seen CPU temps reach 80+ and then move around 80-90. but yes i should check the avg temps on HWINFO as well.

For me, if my laptop was elevated and had a notebook cooler, but my temps were still hovering in the 80s+ in game I'd probably repaste. I have the Alienware 17 so for me, temps can be high(80s) sometimes due to the fans not kicking in until the temps reach 80+, but they don't hover there for awhile.

However, on my gf's M17xR3, the temps never go above 73C in game, when benching I rarely even hit 80C and that's without a notebook cooler. It has a 2760QM, but the system itself is much closer to yours than my AW17.

What paste did you use and what method?

I used Artic silver 5, and i used the procedure most ppl suggested. took out a the paste in one single line and then put the heat sink back on without shaking or smudging anything in order of the screws.

Yeah that method is preferred on the mobile processors. It's the same method I used on mine. A repaste wouldn't hurt. If that doesn't improve it, it may be your heatsink.

There's nothing wrong with your computer, lol. Those temperatures are normal for BF4. That game is very CPU intensive and poorly optimized.

That's just the normal temps on BF4, other games may be played with lower temperatures.

Hello all, four years ago I solved the same problem as you all high
temperatures in the notebook. ASUS M51VA own. Maybe you helped inspire
My video on YouTube. Since then I have everything OK.
