    Anyone?
Here are the schematics for R1 if anyone is interested.

I would consider donating for the M17x R2 ones

Have you tried contacting Dell/Alienware themselves? Who knows, they may be willing to offer it to you.

I have received new multimeter today (yay xD) and i've found that i get no voltage after these mosfet's:

The laptop runs on battery but not on AC, (Lucky for me i have 2 of these motherboards, so i can use the other one to charge the battery)

I get no Voltage from the AC side to the Battery side and vice-versa... (Makes me think that the mosfets aren't working)
I need to get diagram to see what should i be loking for, because i really doubt that the solution could be that easy xD

I get 12V accros the whole board when Battery is in, (except for the part that is behind the first two mosfets)
I get 19.5V only on the short little part of the motherboard till the rail reaches the two mosfets from AC side :/

    Any tips?

No, still haven't received the schematics, but i will most likely go and do a complete inspection of my current working mobo vs the broken one, and i hope to find the faulty chip.

But even if i do find the faulty chip it doesn't mean yours will have the exact same fault. Does your laptop work on battery only too?

If i do however i'd be glad to share the results ;)

On R-2, bear in mind that it does have power socket issues giving some but not good connection, and fidling with the plug will make it seem as if it powers. It is a known R2 problem from some batches.
If the ID pin is the one having problems it will not charge.

What you seeis exactly what guys with power socket issues see. Could be the power not getting by if it doesnt recognice the PSU.

It's one thing if the ID pin is bad (Laptop will not charge and will run in stealth mode only)
and completly something else if there is no power at all from Adapter (Laptop will not charge or run from AC at all, will run only if battery is present and holds charge)
I've also made sure that my motherboard power socket is ok, so that is not the problem.

    Ahhh, ok-
Just wanted to make sure. :D
Others having same sort of problems should have a look at the connector first. :) Since its multilayer PCB its not enough to check solderings. Wires might have to be soldered to help. (where a layout as you search for would do wonders to know where to put them :D )
Some connection but bad connection on both ID and power pin would behave the same, as would bad ground connection on power socket do.

Mentioning it for others trying to faultfind without checking the obvious and very known issue first, since they might look at this thread too.

But im also very interested in getting to know what you come up with as an error for later use. :)

I have found the solution, I have everything I tested the mosfets only on one side Voltage - Build the mainboard please complete and close the keyboard then go to the Alienware, my Alienware goes without keyboard not to connect. Now it runs, although I have now and then a BSOD but I think I get even back =) let me know if it has helped you
    regards

Sorry for my bad english (google translate) =))

Yeah so if i understood you correctly you just had to remove the Keyboard and the laptop started working?

Great that you have your laptop back up and running :)

I Figured out that the problem to my surprise is not in the motherboard at all, it's the casing that's causing a short, if i place a motherboard in a good casing, the motherboard comes to life.
Also placing a working motherboard in this casing causes it to gain the same fault after a while.

So now i just have to narrow down what exactly in the casing is causing the motherboards to go crazy :p... i'm comparing two casings side by side, but i can't see any differences :/

It would still be awesome if anyone would source out the schematics :)

I hope too. I thought that 8740w would be my last laptop, because of the migration to 16:9. After my brother brought M17x-R2, I was really impressed and I think that eventually I'll get one and the schematics would help greatly (modding and stuff) :D

    I've went from
    Acer Travelmate 5330 / Celeron M575 / 2GB / Intel GMA 4500MHD
    to
    Asus M50VN / C2D P8400 / 4GB / Nvidia 9650GT
    to
    Asus G73JH / i7 720QM / 8GB / 5870M
    to
    Alienware M15x / i3 330M / 4GB / 260M
    to
    Alienware M17x R2 / i7 840QM / 8GB / 2x5870M / originally 900p screen, now RGB LED :D

    I'm glad i bought M15x and M17x R2, It's really a masterpeice when it comes down to laptops :)
