Hello everyone. Been awhile since I've been on here, for alas, I have succumb to the power of desktops![]()
Anyways, I have been using my M17x R3 a lot lately as I have been travelling. The 580M is starting to give me fits, I'm getting artifacts at times, overheating, and sometimes I just get a blue/black screen while gaming. I'm afraid I may have to cash in on my warranty and get it repaired.
My worry about getting it repaired/replaced is that the specs for my computer are incorrect on the Dell website. Quick backstory to it is that I was sent a pretty beat up Outlet laptop, and it was not supposed to be scratch and dent. They sent me a replacement for it, but it had lower end specs than my original (we're talking the lowest options in every category). They sent me a brand new one for the trouble, and everything was right on it, except it did not have the 120Hz 3D screen or a Blu-ray drive. Instead of replacing it again, they opted to send a technician to replace the parts at my house.
When I look at my products/warrantied on Dell.com, the M17x is still showing the parts from before the technician came and game me the 3D sceen and laptop. I'm worried that they will base my machine of the online listed specs and I may get screwed out of my 120Hz 3D screen and/or my Blu-ray if they have to replace/repair it. It also took over a month to get everything situated when I first ordered it, so I'm afraid of what I may get back if I have t send it in.
Anyone have any advice or words of comfort for me? Thanks!
EDIT: Also, mods feel free to move this if it should be in the general Alienware section instead of specifically M17x. Wasn't quite sure, so I posted here.

I'd try to get in contact with either one of the alienware reps here or call them up and explain the situation. Hopefully it's an easy fix man.

I would speak with a rep. There's no way that a repair is going to go undocumented.

Yeah, the problem should quickly get fixed, that 580m is not one of their best
. I had the one in my R3 go out on me and this 675 (same card) had a slow and painful death over a couple of weeks. Both calls were quick and the last one had the card replaced at home next day
Was the 120hz display an upgrade or have they had it listed wrong all along? -

Yeah, there is a closed repair ticket from where they replaced the parts, but they never went back and updated the original specs on the site. There is definitely online proof, just didn't know if the repairman would be the investigative.[/I]
Yeah, a call should get them to fix the config and get the 120hz added to the warranty.
By travelling I mean, plugging it into a wall at the hotel. 120Hz is amazing, no amount of battery life could make me get rid of it
I get around 2.5 hours on battery which is way longer than I need to be away from a power source
It was supposed to be on the one they sent me, but it was not. Since I had already had to have the whole thing replaced twice from wrong orders, they opted to just sent a tech to put the 120Hz screen in.
Gotcha, you get the 3D glassses as well? just interested

If a replacement is to be approved, make sure you tell the person about those changes. They'll be able to check the warranty replacement provided and confirm that you had that specific component.
