Does the m17x have an infrared port? I have a dell media remote that goes in the express card slot and works with dells with infrared ports. If the m17x has one then I will be 100% settled on it after the sale of my car.

It has a consumer IR but thats for printers i believe. so i dont think it works for remotes.

When i got my M17x, I tried my dell express card media remote from my Vostro 1700 and can confirm it does not work with the M17x.

Nice! Looks like the CIR I have for my vostro. I use my remote all the time on my vostro and being as though the m17x uses what seems to be the same keyboard I kinda fell in love again. Granted if the new vostro wasn't 16:9 I would just get that, but I figure Im selling my dream car might as well treat myself (if it ever sells).

The IR on the M17x should just be a standard media center remote IR. I have used the 4 year old sony remote I had with the M17x fine

The one I have is from my dell vostro and fits in the express card slot and is convenient. Stores nicely and has worked well for the last 2+ years.

You can buy various brands of IR remots that store in the expresscard slot, Dell did not invent the idea.

This is the remote i had from my XPS 1730 & i could not get it to work on the M17x R-1 or R-2 had to use the ITE IT8512 CIR Receiver from Dell to get it to work.

I figured. I know mine isn't as cool as yours from the 1730, but I have become quite reliant on it over the past 2+ years. I love being able to pop in a movie while out of town and control it from the bed or couch.

The point I was trying to make, is that these windows media center remotes (as a group) are standardized in the signals they send, thus why you can use another brands remote. The receivers are also standardized.

I have both an HP and Sony remote at home, I will try them both out tonight to make sure I am not mistaken, but they should work.
